May 2011, my husband Qaa'im and I got married the same day we both officially graduated (I had just completed my M.F.A. in sculpture and he finshed his B.F.A. in Graphic Design/Digital Media with a minor in Art History). Off we went with some close family to a near by park and got hitched.
Fast forward a few months later: We get the happy news that we're expecting our first child!! I was working full-time at a hotel for the summer, gearing up for my first semester of teaching at Memphis College of Art. My husband had two different contracts for design projects and life was humming along.
And then it all changed...
By the beginning of August, I wasn't able to keep any food or fluids down. We figured it was just the genetics I was blessed with and waited eagerly for me to reach the 12 week mark where things had leveled out during my mother's pregnancies. The semester began and I made it into September, puke bags in tow when I went off to teach. 12 weeks came and rather than getting better it got worse.
Around the same time my symptoms worsened, my husbands contracts fell through. He wasn't working and I was barely managing it. Three visits to the ER later and I was put on bedrest - where I've been since September 23rd. We've moved from Memphis to live with my parents until the baby is born and we're able to get on our feet again.
My husband is still actively seeking work (anything from stocking shelves to coding websites) and we're still waiting on something to come through.
By assisting us with paying for the prenatal care, we'll know that we are able to get the best care for our unborn child. Additionally, what little we are able to make now will be able to go towards food, other medical bills (for myself and thus the baby), and hopefully a trip to see my husband's parents in the near future. (His father is undergoing his last round of chemo therapy soon and we haven't been able to visit them since he was diagnosed with cancer back in May.)
Though we have plenty of other bills, we are simply asking for assistance with the baby. As our funds are limited, we would love to thank you personally with a video, progress on how the baby is doing, and photos of the little one that you have so graciously helped after they are born. For larger donations ($500+) we'll be willing to create a custom art piece as well.
Even if you can't donate, helping us get the word out would be amazing! We are required to pay for the prenatal care by 36 weeks, so the sooner we are able to achieve our goal, the sooner we can make sure the baby's health is completely taken care of!!
Thank you in advance to all of those able to help!!!!!
