Update #1: Change in button construction.

Through continuous testing of our prototype, we have concluded that it is in the best interest of our backers and future users if we use a mechanical button on Rayo instead of a touch control. A touch control system provides a seamless and minimal interface, but it lacks the robustness when operated in the harsh conditions in which Rayo may be exposed.

On the other hand, a mechanical button operates more robustly and is more intuitive. One thing that is of concern is the design of the physical button. Our product designers will do everything to keep Rayo looking great as it is supposed to be. Check update section for the up-to-date image of Rayo!

Update #2: Aero seatpost compatibility

Rayo will come with a standard-seatpost-compatible silicon back that is interchangeable with an aero seatpost adaptor. We will provide the additional aero seatpost adaptor (plus a longer strap) for backers who need them, free of charge. We will ask whether you want the aero seatpost adaptor while surveying for color options after the end of the campaign.

Rayo is a bicycle tail-light designed for the modern cyclist. Equipped with ultra-bright LEDs, engineered optics, motion detection, and bluetooth connectivity features, Rayo’s functionalities not only boost your riding safety, but also make your riding experience more convenient, entertaining, and seamless.

Rayo uses specifically designed total internal reflection (TIR) lenses to direct and focus light emitted by LEDs. The combination of three LEDs and two TIR lenses with different specifications enhances visibility from both the rear and the sides.

Upon braking, Rayo will detect that you are slowing down and will automatically trigger a brake light, warning traffic behind you. At the core of this feature is an algorithm that accurately tracks the movement of the bike, similar to what is integrated into modern drones.

The blinking patterns of each LED light in Rayo are user-configurable, allowing you to create the best signaling options depending on your riding style, traffic, and weather conditions. Future updates will include additional flashing patterns.

At a maximum of 90 lumens with specialized optics, Rayo is also daylight visible. Catch the attention of vehicles, other riders, and pedestrians, no matter what time of day it is.

Rayo's one-of-a-kind feature is group LED synchronization. Rayo can synchronize flashing patterns with nearby Rayo lights, making you and fellow riders stand out as a group. Synchronization takes effect without the hassle of manually pairing devices.

Rayo offers a theft alert feature that notifies you through the Rayo mobile app when unfamiliar movement is detected on your bike. Now, take that break without worrying about whether or not your bike is being tampered with.

Rayo's mobile app allows you to configure Rayo's many features intuitively. Using Bluetooth Low Energy, connecting Rayo to your smartphone is fast and simple.

All of Rayo’s features come sealed within an IP67 waterproof body.  A built-in USB port makes Rayo rechargeable at home, in the office, and from external power banks.

Balanced Visibility

Generic tail-lights only use a single LED light with visibility from the rear but diminished visibility on the sides. Rayo has three LED lights, each with a different purpose. One illuminates the sides while the other two form a tighter beam to be seen better from the rear. Such a system ultimately achieves balanced visibility from the rear and both sides.

Easily Configurable

Most tail-lights have preconfigured flashing modes, and you are stuck with them, forever. Some modes never get used, and the lights may not have the exact pattern you would like. Rayo lets you fully customize the flashing patterns according to your riding conditions. Once configured, you can select the flashing pattern you need, with just a tap at the touch control.

Our goal with Rayo is to provide safety to cyclists by integrating advanced sensors and communication technologies into an elegant design. As engineers and cyclists, we have spent endless hours designing, developing, and improving Rayo ever since the first sketch. Positive feedback and interest from numerous exhibitions have driven us throughout our course, and we will continuously strive to satisfy our supporters and backers by successfully developing Rayo - the ultimate bicycle tail-light.

Risks and challenges

We currently have a functional prototype of Rayo that is ready for mass production. However, we are aware that there may be necessary changes to meet manufacturing requirements. Our policy is to make sure that our backers are continuously informed of any updates or changes. We plan to keep our campaign as transparent as possible, and we also promise to do our best to overcome any challenges we encounter on the way. We are looking forward to the day we deliver Rayo to the hands of our cycling-loving backers. Until then, ride safe!
