About Cuñao
Cuñao is a Los Angeles-based, Latin Folk group. They use their multi-ethnic background and influences to create evocative, poetic songs that transcend time and leave listeners with lush images. Cuñao puts a global twist on their Latin sound by exploring African rhythms, Eastern European melodies, Classical music and American Rock aesthetics.
Rayuela
Rayuela is our second full length album. It is slated for release on April 10th, 2020 through our own label, Ides of March Records. We have been self-producing and recording the album for the past 4 years. Now, the album has been mixed and mastered, artwork has been designed and finalized and album is ready to be presented to the world.
Rayuela is loosely Influenced by a Julio Cortazar novel by the same name; the novel was a starting point thanks to its interesting use of form and chapter sequencing. Cuñao's Rayuela is an interweaving of different musical styles and rhythms glued together through dreamy and introspective lyrical content dealing with death, love, the mysterious, and finding oneself. Several themes and musical styles are often explored within the same song.
The album is broken down into four 'Episodios':
- Agua, vida y muerte
- Cosas del corazón
- Qui?
-
En route
Listeners can experience Rayuela from start to finish, or each episodio can be heard on its own as a freestanding chapter.
The beautiful artwork on the album was created by our bass player Josel Cruz, while band members portraits were painted by Susan Shilling. Altogether, the imagery, audio and lyrical elements create a unique story that blurs boundaries and transcends language barriers.
What We Need & What You Get
We think everyone should listen to this album!
With this campaign, we are asking for your help to reach as wide an audience as possible. This album was recorded and produced entirely on our own, so the funds we raise will go directly toward paying for publicity. We have already taken care of pressing 1000 CDs and other merchandising perks such as T-shirts and buttons.
To top it all off, we are planning an album release show on Thursday April 9th in downtown Los Angeles. This show will help us launch the album with the greatest impact, and we've invited our favorite collaborators and musician friends to perform.
Rayuela Cost:
- Publicity cost - $6500
- CD Pressing for 1000 CD - $1400
- Mastering - $800
- Merchandise - $500
Total cost: $9200. We are asking for $5k which is partial coverage of our total cost.
We have already absorbed the cost of pressing CDs, so we can deliver them to our funders as soon as the campaign ends and BEFORE the April 10th release date. Regardless of whether we make our goal or not, Rayuela will be born to the world. But we NEED your help to make it a success.
The Impact
The production of the album is finished, the CDs are here, and all that remains is helping the album be born into the world. With your contribution, you are not only helping us pay for the publicity, you ARE part of the publicity. With your help we can make people notice and listen.
We think Rayuela is a musical experience. We hope that when you listen, you hopscotch your way to new unknown worlds, letting the notes from each instrument transport you through time, place and mood. We hope that in this music you will find moments of shared humanity, empathy and joy.
Won't you help us spread the word and reach as many people as possible?
Risks & Challenges
The album will be released on April 10th even if we fail to reach our goal. However, our total cost for album production is $9200. Playing shows, and selling merch has allowed us to partially cover those expenses. We've taken on the debt of CD Mastering, CD Replication and Merchandising upfront. In addition, the cost of publicity has put us over our financial limit. The $5k fund we are asking for will make sure that we have a successful album launch on April 10th, and help us get the word out. The more people support this campaign, the more possible it is to make high quality music videos and order different kinds of merch to share with you. With enough support, it might even allow us to plan short live tours.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you cannot make a financial contribution at the moment, that's ok! We still want you to be part of this effort. We will be just as thankful if you can share the campaign, invite friends, and spread the word!
There are plenty of sharing options for you to let your friends know about this album.
