Short Summary
Red Medicine tells the story of two scientists trapped in an elevator at the hands of their company's AI system. Convinced these two scientists will eventually complete a dangerous new weapon, the AI has calculated these two people must be killed. Eventually, the two scientists realize they have one way out of this situation - and it's a deadly option.
With today's conflicts between science, technology and human behaviour, Red Medicine will tell a story relevant to today's experience with AI.
Your support and involvement in bringing this Vancouver Film School project to life will result in a short but effective story that will reflect our contemporary challenges with technology.
What We Need & What You Get
Our team is looking for up to $2,000 in funding. This will go straight to the production, supporting everything from props, a professional set build, post-production work, as well as costumes, hair, makeup and special effects. Though our budget is limited, our goals are not, and we're a group of creative storytellers that can stretch every dollar while maximizing its value.
Did we mention perks? There are perks to jumping on board with our project! From a downloadable director's cut and other bonus items (such as behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the crew), to signed scripts and an end credit thank you, your support will give you access to exclusive features and recognition.
If we don’t reach our entire goal, our funds will be allocated to production design and post production firstly. Rest assured, every contribution will still move us forward significantly.
The Impact
We know how important stories can be to sharing important messages with the wider world. That's why Red Medicine is timely and can add to the conversation about technology and, specifically, Artificial Intelligence. But make no mistake: we're storytellers first and foremost, and we want to excite, terrify and move audiences with a movie they're remember. This is why your support is key to helping us deliver the best possible project.
Risks & Challenges
We've tried to be as realistic as possible given our budget. With a story told on one set with a small but highly talented cast and crew, we believe our risks our low. That said, we know how important it will be to design and build a set that truly sells the story of two scientists fighting for their lives against a sinister AI, all inside an elevator. We are sourcing the right and most cost-effective materials to build an elevator set that looks convincing. And we're developing props that will convey the character of the AI - from computer screens to apps and voice actors. We've also got an experienced and talented production and cinematography team that has told bold and visually-challenging stories! Our team is also equipped with top camera gear and professional guidelines provided by Vancouver Film School to navigate these obstacles.
