Short Summary
As a mother of a preadolescent girl, before starting this project I had been wondering how she would find information about bodily changes. Were my explanations enough? Did she prefer sharing her experience with her friends? Was she searching the web about it? Considering our taboo around menstruation, what impression would she get about the way we grown-ups relate to femininity? Would that affect her self-esteem?
Interviewing Ilaria, Elisa, Shanti and Nada answered most of these questions and paved the way for a new understanding of how new media are affecting girls' self-awareness.
Then my research about misogyny and the Platonic contempt for the matter our bodies are made of led to the realisation that very little has been done in academic and media environments to explore this topics. Yet girls are ready to open up, and as this film shows, even more openminded than we think.
What We Need & What You Get
The film (25') is now in postproduction, more precisely at rough cut 3. The editing is now final and what we need is £1500 to pay a professional who can take care of sound correction and possibly colour correction.
Your money will go into the bank account of my company: Alexa Carenati Productions, a limited company that was set up in 2012, based in London, UK.
Most rewards for your contributions consist of your name being mentioned in the film credits, and depending on the amount, some of you will get a digital copy, some a DVD, to be screened anywhere you want for free. In this way you will play your part in changing the way in which we all look at the female body, and in giving it the dignity it deserves.
Should we not reach the target amount, no worries: it will only take longer to complete the film, but I will use the amount to pay a pro to do the most important part of the correction, to then continue myself with her/his instructions.
Risks & Challenges
Since the film has already been shot and edited, the risk is minimal! It's safely stored in 3 mirror HDs and many people can't wait to watch it and show it to many other people in lectures, schools, charitable organisations and all of the relatives of the girls who have been waiting long enough now.
Other Ways You Can Help
If for any reason you can't contribute in this way, I would really appreciate if you could forward my request to as many people as possible, particularly those who are interested in gender studies. In order to do that, you can use the share tools prepared by Indigogo for you.
