What's the project?
Hello! I'm Cat
Gerrard. I’m a theatre-maker, director and the new
Artistic Director of Sirius Arts which is focussed on colliding performance forms - especially physical, devised
theatre & new writing - to best tell the relevant stories of today in a
theatrical, exciting way. We also want to make work for audiences who might not
normally come to the theatre or have their stories told by theatre-makers.
We want to talk about immigration. We want to shake up theatre.
Red Sky at Night started as a 20 minute piece commissioned by
the Bush Theatre, London. We are expanding it to an hour-long piece, a bold, physical exploration of a lyrical and crackling text about something that really matters. Our campaign is to raise the bare minimum expenses
for 3 weeks of rehearsal and a week long work-in-progress run to get crucial
feedback to propel the production onwards.
Red Sky at Night is about immigration, money and the literal
alien invasion of London. The entire creative team are migrants. Red Sky is trying to put the voice of migrants
on stage in a way that is recognisable and honest. It’s trying to rebalance the
language and the stories around immigration.
It’s trying to rattle the cage of capitalism. It’s a homage
to cities, especially London, at night.
Where does the money go?
Our target of £2888 covers really the bare bones to make the project happen.
Rehearsal expenses
We're paying £75 per team member per week as expenses.
3 performers & 1 director x 3 weeks (12 lots of £75)
1 playwright x 2 weeks (2 lots)
1 stage manager/lighting designer x 1 week (1 lot).
That’s
15 lots of £75 which is £1125.
1 producer working at £75 per week x 6 weeks. That’s £450.
Production expenses
3 performers, 1 director & 1 stage manager £75
each x 1 week.
That’s 5 x £75 so £375.
Marketing and publicity costs
The wonderful illustration, by Nanna Koekoek is £100.
Printed flyers & posters, as required by the venue
comes to £130.
Venue
fee
We’re being charged £1800 for the week. We’ve projected we can raise
£1400 from ticket sales – working at a conservative but typical London fringe estimate
of 40% capacity each night. We need to make up the shortfall so we are adding
the remaining £400 to our campaign.
Indiegogo fee
5% of the money raised (£145) plus Paypal and credit card fees (£25).
Perks
Including £25 for Red Sky badges, £30 for prints of Nanna Koekoek's brilliant illustrations, £43 envelopes/stamps, £40
for international postage. Total £138
We have some brilliant
perks that you cannot get anywhere else! Illustrations from Nanna
Koekoek, palm-reading from playwright and professional palm-reader Eve Leigh, a copy of the (as yet unpublished) play text, a personal storytelling
session with director/storyteller Cat Gerrard. Get in there quick!
Why Red Sky at Night?
This is a critical step in this important project. We have the fantastic support of the Old Red Lion Theatre, one of
the most established and exciting fringe venues in London, and we have the
opportunity to get incredibly valuable feedback from an audience before
developing the piece further. We need your support now to get the ball rolling.
