Short Summary
"I'm a really good girl! I don't even have a traffic ticket!" That's the note I sent to the house mother of The Rehearsal Club back in 1970. I got a cot in a room with 4 other young women -- all of us pursuing a dream in the theater. Two weeks later I was on Broadway, met my husband of 40 years and, here I am, trying to help "preserve the name of The Rehearsal Club, tell its story and inspire future generations." That's our Mission Statement.
Now? The site of our lovely home is now a vacant lot. We, the women of The Rehearsal Club, are heightening the awareness for the City of New York to understand how very important that dilapidated, old brownstone was to the many young professionals trying to stay in New York and get a foothold in one of its most challenging professions.
- July 1, 2013 is our Centennial
- Women from all over the country are coming to renew friendships.
- Our collaboration has inspired a documentary, a book and a new musical.
None of the women of the RC were born with a financial cushion. All we had were big dreams. Some of us achieved fame -- like Carol Burnett & Blythe Danner -- many of us had our 15 minutes on Broadway, film and TV. Me? You may remember me as "Katie Parker" on The Guiding Light, but like The Rehearsal Club, that's gone too except in hearts of our many fans.
What We Need & What You Get
All funding is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE. We're setting a first goal of $5,000 which will primarily fund The Players Club space and catering for other "free" spaces donated by the Museum of Modern Art and the Erarta New York Gallery.
We are ALSO taking seed money from anyone who would like to target the development of the new musical, "Good Girls Only," currently in development. A staged reading is set for March 13, 2013 in New York with a stellar Broadway cast.
- Some events are open to the public - like the Lincoln Center Library presentation on June 27, 2013.
- $1,000 donors, however, will get a seat at our exclusive Players Club Dinner and get a chance to mix and mingle with the stars!
- Other donors will receive our exclusive merchandise (while supplies last).
- Large Donors (potential producers) to the musical will be invited to the first presentation.
The Impact
The women of the Rehearsal Club represent collaboration and support. That first job I got on Broadway? One of the RC girls coached me on my song for the call back. The rest of my Cinderella life is history.
- This Centennial is NOT just a "reunion."
- We will be spotlighting attention on the need for affordable arts housing in New York.
- This Centennial will also debut the collaborative efforts of the alum through the documentary trailer, the book and the new musical.
