REMOTE MEDICAL PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

HOLA! My name is Mike and I am a US Marine Corps veteran. I have traveled to Afghanistan, Iraq, and throughout Africa for the US government providing instruction and assistance. Most recently providing instruction to African Union soldiers in combat and remote medicine. In Afghanistan, I assisted in civil infrastructure building to include the instalation of schools and medical clinics. In Iraq, I supported 3 large refugee camps on the border of Syria and Jordan while embedded with the Iraqi Police. The next adventure should be just as rewarding.

Please help me expand on my knowledge of wilderness medicine by assisting me in my journey to volunteer in a remote medical clinic in Ecuador. The assistance provided directly supports children and individuals who do not have access to hospitals or doctors. This program is being ran by the US National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and Mingai, a non-profit in coordination with the Ecuador government in support of remote medicine.

The goal: $4000.00 strictly for travel, lodging, and additional medical equipment.

The Population effected:

The indigenous Kichwa from Sani Isla used to live from agriculture, fishing and hunting, but recently ecotourism offers new source of income, but they still suffer a lot of problems specially lack of medical care and access to hospital due to the remote location only reached by canoe. We’ll have to take a domestic flight to El Coca city and then travel 4 hours by canoe in Napo river to get to Sani Isla community.

The Relief Medic Volunteer Program is designed for individuals in assisting in emergency care where advanced hospital equipment and supplies are absent, and where disease and traumatic injuries are specific to third world conditions. This training and experience offers a unique opportunity to practice pre-hospital care training while using skills to help rural communities lacking medical resources.
