Who We Are

Silver Spring Stage is a community theater in Silver Spring, Maryland. 

Silver Spring Stage exists in part to provoke conversation and shine a light on stories that might otherwise remain untold. We are a community theatre on a mission to present the best in contemporary theatre that will appeal to the diverse population of the Silver Spring area and attract new audiences and artists.

The Stage, founded in 1968 and incorporated in 1970, seeks out challenging works, bringing our audience a mix of compelling, intellectual, progressive works that offer creative opportunities for actors, directors, and designers. Historically, our organization has been run by volunteers, most of whom are White, and we recognize the need for us to do the work to bring more voices to the conversation about how we make theatre in our community. 

Over the years, the Stage has built a reputation for taking risks and pushing boundaries.

Why We Need The Funds (And What You Get!)

With the current state, funding for arts is both more important and more difficult to secure than ever. Silver Spring Stage has been in desperate needs for some updates and upgrades for several years, and we're committed to making those changes! Starting with the Leta Hall fundraiser which went to update the lighting in our rehearsal space, the Board at the Stage is working on fixing our space, updating our equipment, and making our home a more welcoming place for everyone. From working outlets, to re-vamping our lobby and box office space, to updating the equipment in our booth and main stage, we rely on donations from our community in order to make Silver Spring Stage the best it can be!

The Impact

By upgrading our space, the Stage hopes to make the space more welcoming for artists and audience members alike. We're also hoping to expand our rentals offerings and bring new events for the community. The Stage holds a unique space in our community, and by performing these upgrades we're in a better position to give back. 

We're also hoping to revamp the public spaces of our theater - the lobby and box office - so they reflect the quality of performance we strive for at Silver Spring Stage. 

Risks & Challenges

We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone, especially in the DC area. We appreciate any and all contributions from the community and whatever funds we're able to amass will be used to upgrade and update our space in whatever ways we can. While we have some far-reaching goals (like upgrading our lighting system in the main stage), there are smaller projects that can also be done (like revamping our lobby and box office space). Regardless of how much we're able to raise, you can rest assured knowing that your money is going to help make Silver Spring Stage an even better place to be.
