Help the Community of North Grenville Raise $5K in sponsorship funds for the Dandelion Festival to Replace the TransCanada Sponsorship

On Sunday, April 26 TransCanada was listed as a sponsor on the Dandelion Festival website.  On hearing this news, some local musicians who were booked to play at the Dandelion Festival, announced that they would be withdrawing.  Members of Sustainable North Grenville heard about the musician’s position.  We understand and share the concerns of those musicians.  SNG also values the festival as an important event because it brings people together and creates strong community connections. In order to support the success of this year’s festival, an offer was made to raise $5000 in alternative funds.  In a gesture of good faith, the Board of the Dandelion Festival has agreed that, should SNG be successful in raising the funds by a deadline of May 8, TransCanada’s funds will be returned.

What's the problem with a TransCanada Sponsorship?

TransCanada has proposed to build the Energy East Pipeline across Canada

  • This pipeline would be the largest proposed pipeline project in North America.
  • It would cross North Grenville under the Rideau River  and above a large aquifer that supplies the residents of North Grenville with their clean drinking water.  This Oxford aquifer has been ranked "Highly Vulnerable" making it susceptible to contamination from oil spills.
  • This pipeline would have the capacity to transport 1.1 million barrels of crude oil a day to the Eastern coastline of Canada and northern USA thereby increasing Canadians contributions to carbon emissions at a time when drastic reductions are needed to mitigate run away climate change.
  • For more information on the potential risks the Energy East Pipeline could pose to communities and residents along the route visit:

What is the money being raised for?

Sustainable North Grenville is organizing this effort to raise $5000 to replace the sponsorship money TransCanada pledged to the Dandelion Festival.  SNG has an agreement with the Board of the Dandelion Festival that should this crowd funding initiative prove success and funds in the amount of $5000 be provide to the Dandelion Festival Board by midnight on May 8th, the Board will return all funds.  Further that any mention of TransCanada in promotional materials and efforts will cease.

If we reach the goal of $5000:

  • Sustainable North Grenville will turn over all donated money to the Dandelion Festival.
  • Sustainable North Grenville will also cover all administrative costs of running this campaign - IndiGogo Fees (4%), PayPal Fees (2%), etc
  • Any money raised above the goal of $5000 will also be donated to the Dandelion Festival for retention for the 2016 season to help kick start another successful year.
If we don't reach the goal:
  • This is an all or nothing campaign
  • The Dandelion Festival Board has made commitments to vendors and contractors and cannot slash their budget this late in the planning.
  • Any donations contributed to this campaign are not collected through PayPal until the goal is reached.  If we don't reach the goal you will not be charged.

Who is Sustainable North Grenville?

Sustainable North Grenville is a group of citizens interested in helping to make North Grenville a more sustainable community. Their mission is to foster a resilient community that meets the social, cultural and economic needs of its residents now and for the future, while preserving the environment’s ability to support it.

What is the Dandelion Festival?

The Dandelion Festival is North Grenville’s premiere festival: a free three-day event that draws families to Kemptville’s historic downtown to celebrate the best of the area’s arts, culture, food, music and heritage. The festival is overseen by a volunteer board of directors and planned by a group of volunteers drawn from the community. It relies on government grants and sponsors to provide free programming for people of all ages in the community.

Any way you can help is appreciated

Any donation you can afford is immensely helpful.  We appreciate that this means a lot to you too - we graciously except whatever support you can offer.

  • Help us raise awareness of this campaign.  Share on all your social media networks to help us get the word out.
  • And after we’ve successfully rescued the festival let’s meet up there to celebrate our success!
