The Must Read...

The idea that has captivated my fascination for the previous week is a reasonable aspiration that could easily be made into reality with a little enthusiasm and support from interested folks like you.  With the Winter Olympics just over a month away, millions of people have been planning travel itineraries, confirming schedules and doing a bit of fact checking in anticipation for their trip to the games.  The cadre of people attending the 2014 Olympics, to be held in the mountain town of Sochi, Russia, are the many athletes, business execs, ad sponsors, media personnel and countless others.

My hope is to be one of the many to travel there and experience the excitement of this once every four year competition where heroic accomplishment is to be tested as a symbol of each nation’s pride.  So while the notion of just bankrolling some stranger’s desire to journey to a foreign land as a spectator for this year’s Olympics, surely isn’t convincing enough to successfully launch a crowd funding campaign, I actually have lots to offer in return for this opportunity.  The reason for you to donate is that I myself am a self-described journalist and owner of my own website which has been online for almost two years.

The site is called Yoodledoo.com and as some have made passing reference to it is somewhat like a blog.  However, I consider it much more than that.  It’s a website that provides an observant look into many of the topics that are ongoing across the globe.  The article content, has been related to many number of topics but with one predominate theme being it’s international focus.  Thus the amount of global current events with retellings of specific country’s histories has been an ongoing part of my Yoodledoo endeavor and thus made me something of a culturalphile.

More recently, I have turned my attention to topics concerning eastern Europe including Russia, particularly in response to the Ukrainian protest demonstrations that began in the capital of Kiev about two months ago.  You may read my articles concerning the recent Ukraine/Russian diplomatic relations here.   Also, for the summer Olympic games from London in 2012, I was a regular author of articles recapping many of the event’s and some of the action throughout last year's Winter X Games.

Now the great opportunity awaits to combine a long commitment to publishing international news articles with a passion for different cultures and a personal wherewithal to function independently as a resourceful traveler for a short period of time in a foreign country.

My plan is to spend approximately one week in Sochi, where in rather rogue journalist style , I will attend several of the events, become immersed in the surrounding activity, conduct interviews and most importantly write about the experience.  The articles along with photos and video be posted on my website in a timely manner during the course of the games to ensure that readers of my site and kind supporters like yourself can stay informed with the status of my journey.

The cost to make all of this happen, is around $4500 with airfare being the largest expense.  So I kindly request that you get me to the Winter Games that may in turn offer up an interesting glimpse at one young American’s travel experience in the country of Russia.
