Doyodo presents: The RetroEngine Sigma!
![]()
Retrogaming is constantly gaining in popularity but until now was mostly the domain of computer nerds and tech wizards who enjoy repurposing older console systems or handling bare bones electronics. Even if you have the required skills, setting up and configuring the required soft- and hardware can be a tedious process. With this project we are trying to simplify things: The RetroEngine Sigma is the device designed to make retro gaming accessible to the rest of us.

An homage to the classic systems of the nineties, our palm-size retro-style console has an ultra-powerful silicon core (four, actually) with the perfect specs to deliver one of the most kick-ass retro gaming experiences.

The first time you plug it in, our installer will inject everything you need into the system to start gaming or use the Kodi Media Center Software, right away. You can even write a novel or do your taxes with it!
What can I play?

The Sigma will ship with 15 preinstalled, branded games that are playable out of the box. We will reveal the individual titles over the course of the campaign. In addition, our Plug’n Play installer gives you the choice to download, configure and install additional emulators from public sources and repositories, controlled by your smartphone or tablet. This is as easy as selecting the option during the initial setup of the system and will allow you to play thousands of additional ROM’s(**) that can be easily installed onto the system with a web-browser or by using the provided Micro SD adapter. Your smartphone will also be usable as a keyboard and even as an additional game controller. The following gaming systems can be enabled:

Bluetooth Peripherals via Dongle
Does this only work with wired controllers?
The Sigma comes with built-in WiFi so you can easily communicate with it over your home network, this includes the ability to control games with your smartphone. In addition, we offer a Bluetooth dongle for the expansion port with some perks (also available individually at a later time). That means you’re good to go with most Bluetooth gamepads, for example those used with the PlayStation 3.

How long can I play?

As long as you can stay awake. We ship the system with an AC Adaptor.

And there is more:
By adding a wireless keyboard and mouse (you can also just use your smartphone), your console becomes the perfect living room computer. Write a novel, surf YouTube or watch your movies on your big screen while kicking back on your couch.

What is required to set this up?
In order to set up the system, you need to have access to a Wifi network for installation. You need a Wifi capable smartphone, tablet or computer with a full featured Internet browser for configuration and to act as a mouse and keyboard replacement.
The system ships to you as a fully-configured network enabled desktop computer and media-player preloaded with several branded games, the Armbian OS with the XFCE desktop, Kodi Mediacenter, as well as a one-click installer that allows you to easily configure Wifi access with the help of your smartphone, tablet or PC. It can also guide you through the optional download and installation of additional software.

Risks and challenges
Our team members have executed three successful crowdfunding campaigns by now and will use that experience to make *your* experience as smoothly and enjoyable as possible.
While we have worked with most of our manufacturing partners for years and they have decades of experience in video game peripheral products, there is always a chance of problems in the delivery chain causing delays. If essential components used in the project become unavailable, we might be forced to make changes to the planned product to facilitate suitable replacement components, causing delays. One of our suppliers could go out of business or be unable to scale production volume up quickly enough if demand exceeds our estimates. Customs procedures and certification requirements may change and cause delays. With all unfinished projects, there is always a chance of patent or other legal claims by 3rd parties that need to be addressed and may cause delays or project cancellation.
While these risks exist, we have put contingency plans in place where possible and we are confident we can deliver the project to spec and on time.
Legal Disclaimer: The designs and functionality shown are not necessarily final, they are used for illustrative purposes and may be subject to change. The SBC board used in the prototypes is subject to change depending on economies of scale. The system does not ship with software components or games we didn't either license, develop ourselves or use under a permissible Open Source license. Where we modify or build on Open Source software in order to enable the functionality of our system, we will release all source code once distribution of the final units commences, irrespectively of license type.
ROM(**) usage: If you decide to install the additional Emulator Pack to enable the system to run game backups from older systems, the legality of using such ROMs depends on your countries laws and on additional circumstances such as for example your continued possession of the original copy of the game as well as the original hardware it ran on. The functionality is meant to allow you access to your old gaming favorites, in cases where e.g. technical reasons prevent you from continued use of those - always subject to the laws of your country. We do not condone software piracy.
* - An Emulator is a program that tells a computer how to behave like the console or arcade machine did, so that it knows how to interpret the ROMs.
** - A ROM is a digital copy of an individual game program that was originally running on Arcade machines, consoles or older home-computers. A ROM can normally only be run on the system it was originally designed for.
