Aug 15: We also want to encourage everyone to DONATE NOW at igg.me/at/RevBooksNYC to Re-open Revolution Books NYC in Harlem! Our sister store, Revolution Books New York, is a beacon for revolution and wide-ranging, critical engagement nationally. It has signed a lease for a new storefront and is making a big move to Harlem. Now the fight is on to ensure that the most radical bookstore on the planet re-opens in September. RB NYC has raised 34 percent of its $30,000 goal, with 10 days remaining. The funds are going towards the immediate expenses of renovating its new space at 437 Malcolm X Boulevard (Lenox Avenue). Go to igg.me/at/RevBooksNYC to learn more about why this “Bookstore for the World Is Coming to Harlem: What It Is …Why It Matters…How YOU Can Help Make It Happen,” including video statements from Eve Ensler, Edwidge Danticat, and Ngugi Wa Thiong’o.

Renovating Revolution Books New York's new space in Harlem
We made it!
Thanks to everyone who donated and spread the word, we were "trending," "in demand," and raised $20,027 by midnight Monday, surpassing out goal! We consider all of you now part of the Revolution Books Berkeley community. We've now painted the new space and today finish installing a new $6,000 plus floor! Lots more work - lights, furniture, electrical, and new stock - to go to move in by August 1, so more collective fundraising, promotion and discussion ahead, which we'll keep you posted about. The campaign is still open, and donations are still very urgently needed. TO DONATE: Click on the pink box on the right side of the page that says SELECT A PERK. And you can always donate at www.revolutionbooks.org. Best, from the Revolution Books Staff and supporters.
Revolution Books Needs Your Support to Move, Renovate & Revitalize
Revolution Books Berkeley has been at its current space for 27 years – a center of the revolution, a “Berkeley institution” as poet Bob Hass put it, and one of the “Top 20 Bay Area independent bookstores.” (SF Chronicle). The bookstore has hosted hundreds of author events, political forums, artistic performances, and provided a unique and cutting edge revolutionary book selection in Northern California.
Now Revolution Books has the need – and opportunity – to move into a new space at 2444 Durant in Berkeley by August 1. Your support will make it happen!
Revolution Books is where people from around the world come for the books and the engagement about why the world is like this and how it could be radically transformed through revolution - there is a way out. It's a bookstore marked by a morality and strategic approach to fighting for a world that is overcoming all forms of exploitation and oppression… grounded in the re-envisioned communism of Bob Avakian, and with big arms to engage the wide spheres of cultural and intellectual life that must be a part of fighting for a new world.
The times are changing....There’s a new spirit of resistance spreading across the country - from Ferguson to Baltimore and beyond, and intensifying outrages from attacks on women’s rights, to a new escalation in Iraq, to one police murder after another. Big questions are being posed about the future of humanity and the planet. All this makes a vibrant and financially solvent Revolution Books more needed than ever.
$20,000 is needed now for this move and transformation. Your donations will pay for:
- New electrical wiring and lighting
- An expanded stock and a Point of Sale system
The result: a new and revitalized Revolution Books Berkeley...and a real contribution to human emancipation.
“It's not your old grandpa's communism -- It's something else. It's a deep, spirited analysis. I grapple with these guys all the time, from another point of view, but I love em and respect them and they need your help. And if you want independent thought, independent books, independent ideas to exist you have to step up. You have to help.” Peter Coyote, author, actor, Zen Buddhist Priest
After this move, Revolution Books will launch a Fall fund drive of special author events to complete its re-launch and expand its literature selection, its events, its work and its reach and impact.
Revolution Books has an all-volunteer staff -- and you are invited to join it! Also needed: big & small donations; people to work on fund raising; social media geeks; designers and artists; carpenters; and authors, poets & performers to work with us on this exciting project.
Humanity needs revolution, revolution needs Revolution Books, and Revolution Books needs you.
