We are delighted to announce that veteran Hollywood actor, Jon Polito (Modern Family, Big Eyes, The Crow, The Big Lebowski) is now attached to play 'Rising's' Marty Taylor, a veteran journalist reminiscent of left-leaning activists and hippies of the 1960's. He's wise and compassionate but his conviction and determination to uncover the truth at any cost leads to devastating consequences.

Vikings Actor Owen Roe To Join Cast Of 'Rising'

We are excited to announce that Irish actor, Owen Roe, known for his work in Michael Collins, Breakfast On Pluto, Penny Dreadful and most recently for his role as Count Odo in 'Vikings' has joined the cast of 'Rising'. Owen will play the role of Patrick Flynn, a compromised minister who reaches breaking point when he becomes the scapegoat for systemic corruption within the Irish Government.

What is 'Rising'?

'Rising' is a TV indie whose pilot episode will be launched online as a five part web series and we're asking for your help!

'Rising' is a dystopian, Sci-Fi, drama that revolves around a deadly viral outbreak linked to Vale-Tech, a shady multinational, in bed with a corrupt Irish Government. It follows the stories of six individuals, from the most powerful to the most vulnerable, and their struggle to survive when the truth is leaked and the country descends into a dystopian nightmare.

Be a soldier, a driver, an infected citizen, say a line, come to the launch, visit the set, meet the cast and crew and so much more!

Why 'Rising'?

It has been speculated that Monsanto's domination of the American food chain, Novartis and Googles development of the smart contact lens, Edward Snowdens revelations about numerous global surveillance programs and the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa and the Antibiotic resistant Superbug crisis in China and Malaysia makes George Orwell look like an optimist!

With recent successes Humans, or Charlie Brookers brilliant series ‘Black Mirror’, there is an increasing demand for these types of shows. 'Rising' features a strong female and male cast, in an action packed, character driven, speculative fiction, set in Ireland, which has never been done before.

130 years after the 1916 Rising, can Ireland rise again?

Where will the funding go?

Rising is a professional production, a web series that is also a pilot of a TV series with high-end production values. Professional productions require a professional cast and crew, production staff and post-production team who will need to be paid.

All funds raised through IndiGoGo and private investment will be spent on pre-production, shoot ie. production design, camera equipment, lighting, sound and post-production ie. Editing, color grading, special effects, graphics, grading and sound design. 

Blue is the 15,000 we need from Indiegogo:

TV Drama is very expensive (consider Game of Thrones has a 3 million episode budget!) and it gives a better idea of the challenges that we face – but with your help, hopefully we can make it work!!!

We need the 15,000 from the Indiegogo campaign for pre-production and to get us to the shooting stage.

In order for the pilot to be fully released, we will need lots of action sequences, which involve lots of extras and lots of VFX shots! These are quite expensive and will bump the overall budget to 50,000. The 15,000 from the Indiegogo will go on hiring a script editor, locations scout and production co-ordinator to set the ball rolling.

An ambitious project like this needs lots of skilled and talented people and they (of course!) cost money. We will be in a position to get them at cheaper rates than they normally charge, but this, with the extra equipment hire will be expensive. Added to that is the vehicle hire, the cost of retaining the actors (to not cause scheduling upsets), the cost for retaining the locations, getting production insurance, legal advice and we can begin the softer, less complex scenes.

Once the Indiegogo comes in, we have an initial fund and backing that we can take to private investors – we will get the ball rolling and show the ambition and passion we have for the project and hope that they share it too!

Once the filming is done, we can apply for completion funding off state bodies, these costs will go toward the VFX shots and the sound scoring and mixing.

Why we need you... (Risks & Challenges)

We have been working on Rising for the past year, we now only have months to coincide with the 1916 centenary which is coming thick and fast, and we want to have something alternative to offer the public. We need you to help us cut through the red tape and get our story out in time!

We have a great script that tells an intelligent story, a thought provoking, fast paced dystopian scifi drama where characters are thrust into a real life horror, beyond their control.

Who is ‘Rising’?

Laura Way

Co-Creator/Director

 

Laura is a professional TV and Film actress who has appeared on numerous TV and film productions.

She is an award winning director (Slamdance, New York International FF) with her films screening in competition internationally (Festival Cine De Huesca, Newport Beach FF, LA Shorts Fest, New York International FF, Cork FF, Foyle FF, Slamdance and many more).

She co-directed a feature co-written by Conor Horgan (100 Mornings, Queen of Ireland... another Indiegogo success story!)

She is the receiver of a Masters scholarship, has been awarded 'Vikings' shadowing program and The Arri Alexa Take by the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland and is currently a director with one of Ireland's leading  commercials production companies ‘Pull The Trigger’.

She directed the music video ‘Yes 2 Love’  as part of the 'Yes Campaign' in the recent Marriage Equality referendum, for comedy trio, The Nualas.

Jonathan Hawtrey Clark

Co-Creator/Writer

A former musician, Jonathan graduated from GWW’s Advanced courses in screenwriting and continued his study regimen in both New York and LA, taking classes with many of today’s script ‘gurus’, including Robert McKee, Blake Snyder, Syd Field, Hal Ackerman and many more. His education culminated in his graduation from the Professional Master’s Program in Screenwriting at UCLA.

Jonathan had a ‘Top 30’ script at the Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships (A.M.P.A.S. -- the Oscars). He won the Grand Prize for Best Script, All Genres, at the Fade In Magazine’s 9th Annual Fade In Awards.

Graup Entertainment (”Catch That Kid”, ”Mission Without Permission”, “Only You”) wanted to make his film and attached Januzc Kaminski to direct.

Two more of Jonathan’s scripts did exceedingly well at the Nicholl again and as a result he has now written the pilot and developed a new TV series called ‘Save Your:’ for Aktion Films in LA. Sam Mercer (Producer of ‘The Sixth Sense) is ‘packaging’ his property ‘The Binary Man’.

As an actor signed with ‘Morgan the Agency’ for representation in Dublin, Jonathan Co-starred (fourth billing) with Nicollette Sheridan (of Desperate Housewives fame) in the Hallmark Channel movie ‘Honeymoon for One’.

Jonathan is writing a Thriller for up and coming commercial director Jeremiah Jones (with the Radmin Group) and an adaptation of Irish writer Clodagh Murphy’s novel ‘The Disengagement Ring’ for her publishers.

Ireland in 2046 is one of the wealthiest countries in the western world and its strong ties with ValeTech, an agrarian and agricultural conglomerate, and other multinationals, has boosted the Irish economy to it's highest recorded employment figures, lowest crime rates, and a beloved first class free education.

No longer a country divided, United Ireland's government, heavily influenced by ValeTech, has been loosening Agri-Reform controls over the past 30 years, making the North West of Ireland the most successful and concentrated poultry farming region in Europe. But this booming industry has come at a price.

Toxicity levels in the earth, water and air are off the charts in this area because of expansion of ValeTech's Superfarms. And it's created a perfect breeding ground for microbes to grow and the emergence of a mysterious ailment that’s spreading and infecting, not just animals, but people and a whole community.  And like the Ebola virus, nobody yet knows how to treat this particular viral strain.

To try and control the virus and placate the public, the Government call in the military and lean heavily on ValeTech itself to offer free medical aid to those affected. As the virus continues to spread and worsen through the North West of the country, border controls set up to contain it, spread fear and rebellion among the ordinary citizens who grow sicker each day.
