My name is Ronnie "RJ" Boling, I am a 29 year old single father of 2. Xander (age 8), and Gracie (age 21 months).

I have been struggling with my weight now for over a decade. I have done diet and exercise regimen supervised by both physicians and at one time a personal trainer. After literally no success (and even weight gain), the doctors did blood work on me and everything came back ok. They were kind of miffed. They could not prescribe diet pills due to high blood pressure, so the only thing they could think was less calories and more exercise. I got my caloric intake down to 750 per day, and I was constantly tired and miserable, I felt I was unable to get enough calories to even function, still I gained weight.

The doctor suggested a sleep study to try and diagnose my fatigue. I had my sleep study and it was discovered that I have severe sleep apnea, and had 93 breathing episodes an hour, and never got past the 2nd stage of sleep. I am at a higher risk of stroke and heart disease.

Shortly after that, I crippled myself with a broken ankle, and since the broken ankle I have gained most all of my weight back. My doctor finally suggested that I get bariatric surgery, as he felt it was my only option.

I called my Insurance company and they absolutely do not, under any circumstances, cover bariatric surgery.

I turned to a local non-profit hospital and put together their charity packet that is available for single parents, and low income families. I put together the packet with letters of medical necessity from my GP, Chiro, and Sleep Doctor, along with my medical records showing extensive attempts at weight loss. It was approved all the way up the line until it got to the CFO's desk. She declined it stating that it was "elective". I heard from a local source, that she declined it, because she was afraid if she approved one bariatric surgery that people would take advantage of it.

My son is starting football later this year, and I can't even go out and throw the ball with him, he can outrun me already, and is constantly asking when we will be able to play football. My daughter is running and playing around, and I can barely keep up with her. I want to be around for my children as they grow older. Sometimes I wonder if I am going to be around if I don't get this fixed.

I am not usually one to ask for a handout, but I know when to suck up my pride, and I have seen so many good people on here, I thought I would give it a try.

I have a blog, and if this works, I will blog my progress for the world to see.

What I Need & What You Get

This is what the funds will cover.

The surgery costs roughly 18-19k. I have a $4000 credit card that I plan on covering the difference on.

I will blog weekly on my blog listed above with progress pictures.

If for some reason I do not make my entire goal, I will plead with the hospital to give me a discounted cash rate. If I still do not have enough money, I will travel to another hospital, out of state if necessary.

The Impact

If this goal becomes a reality, I will be able to live a healthy life, and enjoy my kids for a long time to come. I will be able to run around outside with them, travel to theme parks, and not have to worry if the seats are big enough in concerts and sports stadiums.

I believe that people are good, and I understand that there are people out there that have it worse than me, and there are also people who take advantage of these types of charities. I promise you, this will be life changing for my family and I.

Other Ways You Can Help

Help me find a hospital that will do charity surgery, or work with my insurance company, or even a payment plan for someone with less than stellar credit.
