Hi all,
On the 28th of July, I'll be participating in the Zurich Ironman - for those that don't know, a race consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and finishing with a 42km marathon.
Signing up somehow seemed like a good idea at the time, while having a few beers at Christmas with a mate but perhaps I didn't truly appreciate the commitment it would take! Since then however, I've been training most days (through a pretty tough London Winter too - at least for an Australian!) and recently completed a half distance event in Mallorca that left me pretty shattered but slightly more confident that my training is on track for the full distance.
Aside from hopefully achieving a pretty satisfying personal goal and finishing a race that lets you experience a roller coaster of emotions (just watch some of the clowns finishing an ironman on YouTube) these endurance events typically present the opportunity to raise money for charity.
I'll be raising money for the not for profit organisation called Nurse Teach Reach, founded by a close friend of mine, Lucy Rowe.
Nurse Teach Reach provides education to local nurses in developing countries. These remote hospitals lack significant basic resources and fairly simple common methods of best practice that we in the West take for granted. NTR provides the opportunity for volunteer nurses to travel to remote locations and teach a skill set that can really make a difference. Lucy had significant success last November in Nepal and is returning to launch an ongoing program in October 2013.

I've set a target to raise £2000 which I'm hoping is realistic. Also let me know if you have friends that are charismatic qualified nurses that would want to take part in this amazing program!
Any donations are much appreciated!
Note: You can donate in any currency - it all goes to the same place!
