Rocket School - Summary
I am a long time entrepreneur and researcher. In the early 80's I was a guide on the Colorado River and I started a company to make an invention called Chums, a simple cotton eyeglass retainer. I went on to build the company to 60 employees and we sold over 30 million Chums made in our own factory. After about 5 years of making Chums. I began researching alternative energy concepts, built a machine shop and have learned a lot about various technologies. I am still involved in energy research and have been studying a rare formation of hydrogen for over 5 years.
I am also passionate about the maker movement and have visited over a dozen MakerSpaces around the US. I was hired by Southern Utah University to help them get their new makerspace started.
But, what I REALLY enjoy is passing forward my 4 decades of experience to young inventors and future scientists.
The two "Rocket School" kits are well thought out and will include just about everything needed, except basic stuff like scissors, white glue and masking tape. I will make a good video which will teach the basics to the teacher/mentors so that the written instructions will be easier to follow.
For me this is the start of something important. I am passionate about STEM initiatives and it will be really fun to promote and grow Rocket School. For example, there is a middle school in Brazil that designed a "cube sat", a micro satellite, and they got the Japanese Space Agency to carry it to orbit. How incredible for those kids and how much they will learn!
Chums was well known for excellent customer service and I plan to make Rocket School just as great!
Help spread the word and many more young people can learn rocketry, build a model and launch it.
What We Need & What You Get
I am offering 2 kits plus an extra rockets package. There are also 2 cool hats and a T-shirt you can buy to support the campaign. Thanks! Mike
The Impact
Getting young people more knowledgeable about rocketry and space exploration is the simple goal. For many they will at least have a little background and hands on experience. But, there always a few that get really excited about it an it may help shape their lives and career.
Risks & Challenges
Of course with a rocket that reaches speeds of several hundred miles and hour a high degree of safety is very important. I will assemble great videos that help the mentors learn all they need to know to run a safe program.
Other Ways You Can Help
Just spread the word and wear the hats! Thanks!
