Short and Sweet
Summary
Every summer, Rocky Ridge Music Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, brings approximately 150
young musicians ages 10-24 to attend our Junior Music Camps and our Young Artist Program. Many of these students receive
financial aid, but the need is always greater than our resources—and we have to
turn away talented kids whose families cannot afford full
tuition. This makes everybody very sad,
and this year we are determined to make more scholarship funding available, in
order to bring to camp young musicians who will otherwise not be able to come! In order to make this happen, we need YOU!
Who We Are
Located near
Longs Peak and Rocky Mountain National Park, Rocky Ridge is one of the oldest
residential summer music organizations in the nation. In 1942 Beth Miller Harrod,
a pianist, sought a haven where young musicians would be able to immerse
themselves in musical studies away from the daily distractions. She found that
setting at the foot of Longs Peak, a place of unparalleled beauty. With the high country as a backdrop, our
campus includes the historic Hewes-Kirkwood Lodge and over 40 other structures
functioning as a performance hall, practice rooms, teaching studios, a
composition lab, and residential cabins.
In this unique setting, Harrod’s ideal of creating a serene place for an
immersive experience joining music and nature lives on.
Today, our
programs have grown to include virtually all areas of music study in orchestral
instruments, piano, voice, composition, musical theater, and American roots
music. Our Junior Music Camp (ages
10-15) and Young Artist Program (ages 15-24) comprise the core of our youth
programs. Lasting from two to five
weeks, respectively, these programs bring young musicians to our mountain
campus for complete immersion in music and nature, and are designed both to
enhance musical skills and to develop creativity, self awareness, and
harmonious relationships. Students leave
with a great sense of confidence in their musical abilities which spills over into
other areas of their lives, a collection of special memories that they have
created for themselves within a nurturing community, and a network of friends
who share a passion for music that support them long after their summer at
Rocky Ridge is over.
Our Goal
Why $7,500? This
amount will allow us to make the following additional scholarships
available: two $2,000 full Junior
scholarships for low-income students; four $250 partial Junior scholarships;
and five $500 partial Young Artist scholarships. Qualified students have already applied, and
are waiting for your donation to the scholarship fund. Summer is right around the corner, and our
students need your help to make this happen quickly!
