Support female filmmakers!!
The project is close to my heart as Jonathan struggles with mental health issues that most Millennials – including myself when I was a teen – can very much relate to. Chloe's character provides the film with a frame of reference that makes us question what exactly is the relationship between psyche and survival. Due to my previous studies in Psychology and Philosophy I am drawn into creating meaningful characters and exploring purpose and life philosophies through my filmmaking. I feel like each character in Runaways channels a current social issue through their story. To me, filmmaking is a powerful way to bring light to social issues while entertaining an audience.
The film is narrative short form fiction and will be submitted to film festivals. In addition, the project is my graduation film for my degree in MA Directing. The funding will be spent on tangible filmmaking costs such as hiring actors, securing locations, purchasing props, hard drives and other crucial items as well as providing food and transport for equipment and crew. The estimated budget for Runaways is £4000 of which I aim to fund half of with crowdfunding. You can help make Runaways happen!
According to a study conducted by San Diego State University, female filmmakers make only 18% of directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors and cinematographers today. I am a female filmmaker from Finland, currently living in London. As both the writer and director of Runaways, I hope to see a change in this number and ask you to support female filmmaking.
Each and every donation is greatly appreciated and even the smallest amount can make a difference – that being said, larger contributions will be met with tokens of appreciation such as a copy of the film, movie posters and even credits in the finished film. Significant amounts will also secure a unique possibility to observe a professional film set on one of the shooting days!
For contributions via sponsorship (such as providing hard drives or other equipment, catering or transport or anything such like), contact heini.myllylae@metfilmschool.ac.uk. Please consider helping by any way you can and share this campaign!
I am privileged to be working with a highly talented team on this short film. More information on my background and previous work can be found from heinisusanne.com. Runaways will premiere on November 2018 at Vue Westfield in London and try out for festivals after the event.
