Hey! My name is Mari (rhymes with sorry) and I'm about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime! No, not my highly anticipated cross-country road trip, my NYU thesis film!
In addition to bad jokes and exclamation points, I also have an affinity for coming of age films. So this fall, I'm making one!
RUNT is the story of 15 year old Louis, who joins a gang of older teens for the night. Drawn to their charismatic and commanding ringleader Oscar, Louis is challenged and tested as the evening unfurls.
Is it worth sacrificing a part of yourself to be part of a group? We've all felt alone, we've all felt like outsiders, we've all wanted to belong. These feelings are universal, these moments are what it means to be a teenager. As someone on the verge of adulthood, real adulthood, now feels like the perfect time to reflect on those teenage experiences and make a movie that explores that very essence of growing up!

A lot of elements, financial and otherwise, must come together to create a quality, creative, 20 minute short. Your donations will go directly towards:
- Camera and Equipment Rentals : 100% expensive and 100% essential
- Transportation and Trucking : we need wheels to get our crew and equipment around town to shoot
- Locations : the perfect locations throughout new york city will inform and enhance the story
- Food : we have to feed the talented cast and crew
- Art : props, wardrobe and make up are a must
- Post Production : filmmaking doesn't cut at "that's a wrap", post production (editing, sound design, scoring, etc) is a vital part of the process

Making a short film is a huge investment: time, money, passion and labor. Making a short film is hard: endless costs, coordination and complications. We lose sleep, we stress, we work long hours and we wouldn't have it any other way.
$6,000 may be considered low budget, but $6,000 is a big deal. Pure and simple, I wouldn't be raising and investing $6,000 in a story, a script, a film I didn't 6,000% believe in.
Issues arise. Lack of funding, logistical surprises, production hurdles. But 90% of filmmaking is problem solving (the other 10% is coffee). We've been training at one of the top film schools in the world, working on project after project, set after set, and we are SO ready to bring RUNT to life!
