Overview
Welcome to the first annual Sanaa Music Workshop. Sanaa, which means work of art in Swahili, is a multigenerational community devoted to cultivating artistic excellence. The workshop will be held June 19-24 for students ages 14-19. Sanaa Music Workshop aims to provide a roadmap for artists to fuse artistic and entrepreneurial skills necessary for a long and successful career in the arts.

Introduction

Sanaa is the swahili word for work of art.

Sanaa Music Workshop is an education program that provides young musicians with the tools to thrive in the ever-changing musical landscape. Traditionally, music programs focus solely on artistic development. While this is absolutely necessary, it is only half of what is required for a successful career in the performing arts. Sanaa immerses students in exercises that focus not only on improving musicianship but also on the processes of marketing, selling and branding what is being created. With Your help, we can bring this program to the music students who need it most.

Sanaa Music Workshop

It is our goal to merge the worlds of music and business. Most, if not all arts programs, ignore the monetization process and focus solely on performance and technical musical ability. For example, standard arts programs teach students how to paint, play, and create beautiful art but fail to teach students how to make a living using their skill sets. We believe that we are here to enrich this community with a different type of arts program. We are passionate about improving students’ odds for a successful, lucrative and fulfilling career in the arts. We’ll do this by giving them a complete set of skills and always looking ahead to innovations and tools that will help them and us learn and progress.

Sanaa Music Workshop and The New Orleans Jazz Market

Sanaa Music Workshop is proud to call the Peoples Health New Orleans Jazz Market home. We are excited about the partnership and looking forward to growing our program with their help. The Jazz Market is located in a thriving area that bolsters the community around it.

What you can do to help.

By contributing to this project you will directly affect a student's life. We will use the funds collected to provide scholarships, financial aid, lunch, and pay for other operating expenses. Reduced rates and scholarship opportunities will be available to students who qualify because you have decided to be a part of the solution. Dismantling financial barriers for arts education is one of the many obstacles we intend to fight. In order to do these things, we need to raise 20,000 dollars. This money will fund the camp for two years and allow us to provide a high-quality educational experience for little to no cost.

The Impact

Your contribution will help us prepare a generation of students for the challenges they will face in today's marketplace. Hopefully helping them to realize the potential they have for monetizing their creations and skill sets. By allowing students to apply their creativity to developing marketing, branding, and selling skills, we can eradicate the "Artist Myth". A line of thinking that relegates artist to a life of poverty.
