What is Sandy Hook Strong?

A small group of students at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, Connecticut wanted to do everything they could to support their Newtown neighbors and the families affected by the senseless tragedy. Through the school's Leo Club, a community service organization operated under the Lions Club, they started a bracelet fundraiser. Before the bracelets arrived, the fundraiser was featured on Channel 3 News and NBC 4 New York. The memorial bracelets were sold at local businesses in Woodbury, Newtown, Southbury, Bethlehem, and Bridgeport, as well as in various other locations throughout Connecticut. Thanks to the hard work of the students, generous businesses, and thousands of caring donors, the Sandy Hook Strong fundraiser collected over $10,000 in less than three months. However, when country music super star Kenny Chesney received a Sandy Hook Strong bracelet and shared it with his millions of fans, the national demand has soared. Politicians such as United States Senator Richard Blumenthal are also showing their support of Newtown by wearing a green and white Sandy Hook Strong bracelet.

Bracelets will continue to be available only on this website.

Where does the money go?

The money collected will be donated to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund through the United Way of Western Connecticut in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank.
