Background
Santa Maria Community Services' International Welcome Center (IWC) provides English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adult immigrants in Price Hill and beyond. English language learned in the ESL classes, helps individuals become more acclimated to the life and customs in their new home country, as well as improve their marketability for jobs. The IWC also provides free childcare for the children of ESL students during the class time, where the children receive tutoring and participate in enrichment activities.
We would like to provide a Mad Science class and expose the children to the wonderful world of science. We think that this is a great program to enrich and expose students to the science field early on. The field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field desires an increase in diversity, and we believe that this exposure to science early on can motivate, give students of diverse backgrounds the confidence to experience and pursue science in the future.
What We Need
In order to provide this Mad Science program twice a year to the children of ESL students, we need $500.00 to cover the class registration and materials. We have every belief that we can reach our goal of $500.00 with your support, however in the event that we do not reach the goal we will offer one Mad Science class and continue to fundraise in other ways to reach the goal for two classes.
You will get personalized updates on progress and success of the Mad Science class, acknowledgement from the children benefiting from the class, and most importantly you will know that your contribution has made a positive impact and has helped families help themselves.
Other Ways You Can Help
Spread the word about the campaign, share the link through your E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media outlets. The more people we reach, the greater the chance that these children will have a chance to experience the wonderful world of science.
