Save the
Radiant Kids School
Eco Lib Foundation (EcoLib) a registered NGO, which works through literacy,
livelihood promotion & market linkages, for assisting kids that come from
economically weaker sections of society, whose parents work as labors, domestic
workers, security and support staff in both rural and urban settings. With this
objective, Eco Lib has started “Radiant Kids” – its non-formal
education and awareness center for underprivileged children in Gurgaon.
Its motto is “Together we shall
overcome.” Radiant Kids has been established with the primary
objective of providing basic education to all those children who have never
gone to school or are out of school due to lack of facilities, poverty &
frequent migration, etc. It also provides a creative and conducive platform by
way of sports, karate, music, library, etc., not only for the holistic
development of other underprivileged kids, but also to channelize their energy
positively, as a buffer from the negative influences of their adverse
circumstances.
I have created this campaign on behalf of the
Radiant Kids School. This school is run by Aparna Singh in Gurgaon to
educate the children of the poorest of the poor. She does this amazing
job relying on her own funds and donations. This week she lost her lease
on the property she was renting to run the school. As she is looking for
a new property to rent, she found that the rents are out of her reach.
There are currently 115 children in the school ranging in age from 3 to
18. They are equally divided between girls and boys in a 50-50 ratio.
A majority of these kids belong to the lower castes - they are children
of rag pickers, day laborers, maids, auto-rockshaw drivers etc. Without a
project such as Radiant Kids, these children would be walking the streets or
begging or getting into other trouble. Aparnaa runs the school via the
non-profit EcoLibFoundation.
I am a resident of the community where Aparnaa
lives and have just moved to India from Texas. I have seen the kids from
this school perform on stage and have purchased some of the handicrafts created
by them. My heart was touched by what Aparnaa is doing for these
children. I was also broken hearted, along with countless other residents
in this community, to hear of the school closure. We immediately
mobilized and collected INR 28000 for her ($450) within one day! However,
that is not enough to save the school by renting another property.
Aparnaa needs $10,000 to sustain the school for the next year.
Where will the funds go?
All the donated funds will be utilized for the infrastructure including
well- equipped library and computer lab, teachers salary, snacks for the kids
and other supplies. If Aparnaa can raise the $10,000, she can run the school for a
year and, in the meantime, find sustained corporate or social donations, to
keep it going for many years beyond.
Please share this campaign with everyone you know
within your "six degree" radius and ask them to share it further.
It is truly a noble cause. If we can raise the money, it will be a
changed world for these children.
