About The Project & Our Concept
Scratch is a short screenplay written by filmmaker and NYU sophomore Matt Rosenbaum, which is scheduled to enter production in March 2013. The film will follow a desperate and broken man's attempt to rob a convenience store of its scratch-off lottery tickets. Nothing goes according to plan, however, when the man finds himself enticed by the store's affable and philosophical proprietor. Among other things, the man's moral integrity and views on life and God are challenged throughout, which will lead to a life altering mistake. To be shot on 16mm film, Scratch will be a gritty and naturalist representation of a grim yet nonetheless profound moment in the lives of two individuals. Ultimately, the film will aim to contrast heavy themes such as the relationships between chance and fate, justice and randomness, and god and chaos, with lighthearted and absurdist banter between two fellow humans.
Our Mission
As students we are always on a mission to GROW GROW GROW. Of course, nobody learns to swim without getting their feet wet, or to ride a bike without getting on the dang bike, SO THIS IS OUR TIME TO LEARN.
That being said, this aint our first rodeo.
Writer/Director Matt Rosenbaum has created numerous short films in the past, several of which have been award winning. His previous film, Limbs, can be viewed here. While Limbs was created without a dollar to its name, it was quite the success. With some funding, Scratch can set the bar far higher, and allow the filmmakers to spread out their wings, and let their knowledge and experience expand along with their resources.
Budget
Our current budget rounds out to $3,000. We are hoping to raise that money through IndieGoGo donations. Here is a basic list of what we will need.
1. Film stock and processing fees (at $50 a roll, this one’s a biggee)
2. Craft Services and Transportation (a filmmaker’s gotta eat)
3. Location Scouting and Locking (without a location, there’s no movie!)
4. Art, Wardrobe & Makeup (time to make everything look pretty)
5. Insurance (a necessary evil)
Your Help Makes A Difference
We are reaching out to anybody that has ever loved a good story, appreciated a well put together piece of art, seen a film that left you stunned, tried to hone a creative skill, or just have had the back of a friend that pursues what he or she loves. Every bit of help is much appreciated, and the more you would like to be involved, the more we would love for you to jump on board our production van! (In a totally not creepy way….)
Other Ways to Help
If you find that your wallet is empty, but your heart is still open, it’s totally no worries. you can help in ways that don’t involve spending a dime. SPREAD THE WORD. This is just as important!
•Send the video and website link. Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, Instagram, Myspace, whatever!...just kidding not myspace.
•Tell your film geek friends. (you probably have at least one)
•Share it with other art enthusiasts
(film geeks that have mustaches)
•Write or Blog about the project
(film geeks that have mustaches and computers)
•Use share tools from IndieGoGo!
So let’s get started!
To make this happen, WE NEED YOU to help overcome our biggest obstacle - funding the darn thing! If you make even the smallest donation to our project, we will make sure to thank you in a big way. Check out our awesome list of perks over to the right, and at very least grab yourself a chuckle or two at our subtle movie references. We really really really hope at the bottom of our hearts that you can be just as excited about this project as we are. It's a human story that shows how two people, from entirely separate walks of life, can relate and find a connection despite the darkest of circumstances. Let’s make it happen.
A million and one thanks.
The Scratch Team.
