As we all know children come up with the most imaginative stories. Scroll A Story wants to encourage children to be creative in writing and drawing stories. The product will give children some screen free time and allow them to enjoy writing and drawing stories. By writing, drawing, inserting paper into sleeves and inserting the spindle it will help children to develop fine motor skills. Children will be able to speak into the microphone to record the story, which will help to improve their verbal communication skills. Parents and guardians will be able to draw and record stories for the children to view, which will help with their listening skills.
Your contribution will help to make Scroll A Story a reality for many children who love to draw and write. The toy may help to inspire children to be an author, children’s author, illustrator, director, script play writer, artists or many other careers. It will allow children to use there imagination and to dream of what they can do. We remember when we were young children, we would enjoy our time writing short stories and drawing pictures. By making a contribution to Scroll A Story you are investing in your children's screen free creative time, an investment which is priceless.
How your contribution helps
As the product is at a concept stage, the money raised will be used to manufacture and carry out all safety testing during the final production stage.
Our aim is to raise £165000, to make Scroll A Story a reality. We are currently in talks with a manufacturer in China to make the toy. As the product is at a concept stage the money raised will be used to pay for the following:
- The largest portion of the contribution will go towards manufacturing, a fully working version for our contributors.
Cost of carrying out all the safety testing.
Cost to transport the toy from China to the UK, which will include fees for the customs agent, duty and Vat to customs. For international delivery the toys will be delivered from Hong Kong.
Fees for Indiegogo and Stripe.
The final product will be made from plastic and look a lot smaller. The edges and corners will be rounded.

Your contribution will help to make the concept a reality. The product will provide children with some screen free time, which parents have been looking for. We have spoken to many parents and teachers about the toy and they have all said it is a very good idea.
How Scroll A Story works
Once the user (parent/child) has finished drawing they will insert all the pictures they have drawn into the plastic sleeves on the spindle. The spindle will now need to be inserted into the player. If the user has inserted a spindle with a new story, a name for the story has to be created. The user needs to press the story menu button once and then the new story button. The user needs to use the keyboard to type the name of the story. Once they have typed in the name the save button needs to be pressed to save the name.
To record the audio the user will need to press the forward button once, this will bring the first drawing in front of the viewing screen. The user will need to press the microphone record button to record the audio. Once they have finished recording they will need to press the save button. The audio will now be saved. They will need to do the same process to record audio for each drawing. Audio will only be recorded for the drawing, which is in front of the viewing screen.
The user will be able to create many stories and record audio for them on memory. The number of stories, which can be created, will depend on the amount of memory available.
The play button will spin each drawing in front of the image viewing screen and play back the corresponding audio for that drawing. When the audio stops the motor will spin to the next drawing. It will continue scrolling until it reaches the last sleeve and stop.
The Control Panel

Parents and guardian's can create a lullaby for the children. By pressing the Play button for 3 seconds, it will enable the Auto Repeat. This feature will automatically rewind the drawings back to the start once it has reached the end sleeve to play again.
The Record button will allow you to record audio for the drawing which is in front of the image viewing screen only. You will need to press the forward button once and then record audio for the next drawing.
The Stop button will stop the drawings from scrolling past the image viewing screen.
The Cancel button will allow you to cancel an action when you are recording audio or when you are creating a story name.
The Save button will allow the user to save story name and audio.
The OK button will allow the user to confirm the option they have chosen. If the user pressed the delete button, they will be asked if they want to delete. Press OK to confirm or press cancel to cancel.

The Play Audio button will allow you to listen to the audio for the story with out the drawings scrolling.
New story button will allow the user to create a new story name by using the keyboard. All audio files for that story will be saved in a folder under that name.
Story Menu button will allow you view previously created stories. By pressing the scroll up and down buttons to find the story you would like to play.
Edit button will allow you to edit the name of a story.
The delete button will allow you to delete a story and the audio files.
By turning the dial the user's will be able to adjust how fast each sleeve passes through the image viewing screen. They will be able to create a short animation by increasing the speed at which the sleeves go past the image viewing screen.

Parents or guardians may need to help the children when they first start playing with the toy. By using the toy together it will help with family bonding. By making a contribution to Scroll A Story you are investing in your children's screen free creative time.
The risk and challenges which we may encounter. To overcome any safety issues we will be working with a toy safety consultancy prior to making a prototype. We may encounter delays in making the prototype.
