HEY! Let us tell you a little bit about the Year Two BA (Hons) Film students of the Puttnam School of Film!

WHO | We are fun, innovative, creative and imaginative little souls who love to make films. Nothing satisfies us more than seeing our stories come to life on screen and we'd be eternally grateful if we could have your support!

WHAT | We will be producing 6 films for our final year project, each film having its own unique story, yet stringed together with the common purpose of addressing social issues.

WHEN | Shooting starts on 27th February, and will last three weeks. Two films will be shot at the same time on the same week, followed by another two, followed by another two.

WHERE | Each film has their own unique locations, from Pulau Ubin to coffee shops, from swimming complexes to jungles and forests. It is a dynamic range and you would definitely be able to see what we can do with the locations we find.

WHY | As Martin Scorsese once said, "Movies are the memories of our lifetime, we need to keep them alive." Through your contributions, you can help us give life to six memorable stories.

HOW | When we make films, we require something fairly important: money. As students, we do not have the capabilities to invest our desired amount into the film. A bigger budget allows us to open more windows for us to improve on the quality of our film. Each individual film has their own set of challenges to face and most of them can be overcome with a bigger budget. Some of these challenges will be presented later on to you.

A young boy is forced to run away from his mandatory national service in order to support his mother's medical needs.

TEAM LOVE, IN CHINESE

Not In Picture: Luis Tejero (Producer)

Love, In Chinese tells the story of an introverted seven year old Indian girl who refuses to learn Mandarin despite her mother's best intentions, until one day, she realises that learning the Chinese language could be the key for a better future for her and her mother.

TEAM TAXI DRIVER

(from left to right)
Jasmine Lee (Director) | Jason Lau (Writer & DoP) | Sing Valerie (Producer)

Oliver, an estranged forty five year old gambling addict-turned-taxi driver, finds an unlikely companion in a mysterious passenger named Sal, who eventually turns out to be a manifestation of himself.

TEAM NENEK

(from top left to bottom right)
Afiq Jaafar (Writer) | Julius Ooi (DoP)
Aron Castro (Director) | Inez Ho (Producer)

This is an intimate screenplay in which a young boy, Aziz, has to endure a gruelilng day at his grandmother's house, where his modern upbringing and her antiquated lifestyle find themselves at a clash. This is a new retelling of the age-old tale of our past's place in the present.

TEAM DESOLATION ; DEPREDATION

(from top left to bottom right)
Valerie Sing (Dop) | Luqman Mohamad (Writer)
Rajeswari Vikiraman (Director) | Edwin Choy (Producer)

Alastair has been living happily alone in his makeshift home within a dense jungle of Singapore for slightly over a year but when he spots strangers inspecting his makeshift home, will Alastair run away again or confront the problem?

TEAM BIRDS & BEES

(from top left to bottom right)
Zuki Juno Tobgye (Writer) | Ivan Yau (DoP)
Vigneswari D/O Nagaraj (Director) | Marisa Goh (Producer)

A coming of age story about twelve year old Jamie catching her elder sister having sex while simultaneously experiencing her first crush and the embarrassing confusing tribulations of adolescence.

1. CAST FEES

Almost every film requires good performances and we are no exception. As such, a large percentage of our budgets are set aside for our cast. Remember a time when the movie storyline was perfect but the actor's face or voice just turns you off? We pay for quality and with a larger budget, we will be able to open up our search options wider.

2. ART DEPARTMENT

Even though we have set aside a large amount for our art, it doesn't mean we're going to go Hunger Games on our set. As you would have already guessed, the money for props and set design can make a huge difference between making our films look "fabricated" or "convincing."

In "Desolation; Depredation", a man lives in an isolated jungle in a make shift home while "Taxi Driver" calls for extensive set design of a gambling den as well as renting an actual taxi.

"The Boy" will feature a fight scene at a coffee shop, and as we do not wish to interfere with the business of real coffee shops, we will need a good and convincing set for our actors to perform freely.

Wardrobe is a crucial component in all six films, especially so in "Love, in Chinese" as they require many sets of school uniforms.

3. WELFARE

Our small crew of 30 people will be divided into two film shoots a week, and as we are shooting back-to-back on those weeks, we will have little time to rest. The next best thing we can give to our crew is through welfare: food and drinks especially. A tired and depressed crew can lead to dire consequences, and thus with the help of your contribution, we will be able to see our crew through of 36 days of shoot.

4. TRANSPORTATION

You can also help us take our heavy and large equipment such as generators and lights, from one location to the next with the help of rented trucks. Not to mention the cost of petrol, parking, ERP etc.

As "Nenek" is set in a kampong, they need to ferry cast & crew to and from mainland Singapore to Pulau Ubin for at least 2 days.

WITH LOVE FROM ALL OF US...

Every cent that you give will make a huge difference in various aspects of every single one of the six films.

IN RETURN! Links to all six films, posters, DVDs, and invitations to private screenings will be given correlating to the amount you contribute.

ALSO! Do follow our journeys on Instagram (@PSOFSecondFilms) as we make these six films come to life all the way from script to screen.

Any form of support be it monetary contributions or spreading the word around will be greatly appreciated by all of us here at PSOF. :)
