Hi, my name is Jenn and I'm an artist.
I grew up in Philomath, Oregon; spent a lot of time in Portland, Oregon where I got my Bachelors of Fine Art; moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I used my BFA working in a community printmaking studio; and am currently living in Philadelphia where I received my Masters of Fine Art in May, 2013. It’s important to note that for every major move in my life art and art making has always been a strong motivating factor. Over the years I’ve been lucky to travel to places like England, Spain, Morocco, Ecuador and Spain, and most recently South Korea. Every time I’ve had the good fortune to travel I have learned, seen, and experienced so much that has all in one way or another greatly affected my artistic practice.
As a multi-media artist -- I make a lot.
I make paintings, drawings, books, prints, installations, and more...
If I can get my hands on it, I’ll use it.
It’s because of all the things I make that I was recently asked to participate in an artist residency at D’Clinic Studios in Lendava, Slovenia for the month of July. I’m very excited to participate in D’Clinic’s programming, experience Slovenian culture, and make new work. Because of my past experiences traveling -- I know this opportunity will make a DIRECT impact upon my career as a working artist.
As it stands, I am already working towards various gallery or other presentation opportunities in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. to showcase work completed while at D'Clinic Studios.
Unfortunately, costs are high.
I’ve already saved up roughly three thousand dollars since January when offered this amazing opportunity and this will go directly towards living costs while in Slovenia, rent and utilities back in Philadelphia, transportation costs while in Slovenia, food, art supplies, and other incidental costs. Unfortunately, I’m running out of time and airplane tickets are expensive. After a lot of research, looking at various flight carriers and flight paths, $1700 is the average cheapest ticket price flying to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. This is what I’m asking you for help with.
Price breakdown:
After researching several flight carriers and flight paths I've found that Delta Airlines typically offers the cheapest flights to Ljubljana International Airport, leaving from Philadelphia with a transfer in France. The $1700 I'm asking for will cover a roundtrip ticket.
Perks:
I'm offering a variety of pieces that I have completed over the last two years.
I highly suggest the "Exclusive Update Emails." Ever wondered what an artist residency abroad looks like? Want to see what I'm doing when I'm doing it? Curious about Slovenia? I'll be off all social media sites while working at D'Clinic Studios -- with the exception of these weekly emails. Starting one week before I leave and ending one week after I return, this perk will give you an exclusive look at what an artist residency can look like, how my work output will take shape, and all the Slovenian factoids I can fit in! Plus, lots of pictures!
For a little more money, I also suggest the "Artist's Book." As part of my residency at D'Clinic Studios I will be completing a published Artist's Book. This will be a unique look at my time and work output while in Slovenia. I will be receiving 20 copies, 15 of which I offer to you!
International supporters: Please consider donating extra to help offset shipping costs!
**UPDATES** With 62 hours left in my campaign, 111% was hit!
Absolutely none
of this could have happened without all the support I've gotten from
everyone. Literally every dollar counted towards my goal, no amount of
support was too small.
Having said that: there are still perks to be had for your walls and bookshelves! Please consider
sharing this campaign via your social networks to get the word out.
For
complete transparency: money that is received above and beyond my
initial amount will go directly towards travel and art supply costs
while in Slovenia as well as transportation of my finished work back to
the States. This IS NOT going towards things like paying my rent or
utilities in Philadelphia.
Again, thank you so much for
everyone's support. Initially I felt a mixture of emotions when deciding
if I should do this or not -- mostly embarrassment -- but the kind
words and financial support I have received have been truly inspiring.
Thank YOU!
