About Me
Hi, I’m Sarah! I love to write about and take photographs of food. My work regularly appears in the Thursday Food section of the Springfield Republican, the largest daily newspaper in Western Massachusetts, and author the gluten-friendly cooking blog called sarahinthekitchen.com.
I really love what I do and I’m always looking for ways to improve or learn new skills. In January, I started a fundraising campaign because I want to take a fieldtrip to the Eat Write Retreat, a food writing conference that takes in Philadelphia from May 31 – June 2, 2013.
This intensive, hands-on learning weekend focuses on educating food folks like me through workshops in food styling, photography, cooking, writing, and professional development. That’s a whole lot of awesomeness in one place!
My goal is to raise $1400 by February 28th. I'm on my way to being funded but still need a little help! If you contribute to my campaign, you will help send me to a conference that I've wanted to attend for the last two years AND further me on the road to becoming the greatest food writer and photographer in the world!
Goals & Perks
I’m hoping to raise $1400 to attend my conference by February 28th. The cost breaks down like this:
- $1100 All-inclusive early-bird price for 3-day conference
- $200 Amtrak ticket from Springfield to Philadelphia
- $100 Additional travel costs like taxis
Over thirty funders have generously donated to my campaign so far and they will receive contributor perks like:
- $10 - Postcard food illustration
- $25 - Matted food illustration or Kitchen Helpers
- $50 - Framed food illustration or Market Tote
- $100 - Anselblue Design Kitchen Textile Set
- $300 - Chef Sarah cooks dinner in your kitchen!
A supporter who could give above the largest contribution amount would, simply put, be a blessing. In thanks, I would trade a toolbox full of awesomely creative skills as a seasoned writer/editor, photographer and award-winning artist for a set number of hours to make partnering together a home run. That could mean working sprucing up menus or marketing copy, taking photos of food or an eatery for promotion purposes or discussing ideas for how my art could add some color where it might be needed.

All contributors will receive will receive special invitation to my upcoming September gallery show called "A Woman's Place" featuring photographs of women who do amazing things related to food. Also, as a BIG thank you to everyone who contributes, I will host a Muchas Gracias Fiesta at my house in June. We'll cook up some great food, talk about my trip and watch a short video that I'll put together so you can see exactly how your contributions made a big impact for me.
