The Rock Camp Experience
This has been a wonderful, empowering experience for my daughter. - Bernadette, parent.
I wish rock camp was every day. - Gabi, camper.
QCRC really ROCKS! ... She has been excited every day by what she has learned and done. - April, parent.
Queen City Rock Camp is an experience like no other. For one week each summer, girls between the ages of 8 and 18 learn to play an instrument, form bands together, write their own original song, and perform it for a real audience at the camp showcase. There are also music related hands-on workshops, tutorials, and roundtable discussions about topics relevant to the campers' lives. The things each camper learns about collaboration and positive self-image will stay with her for life… whether or not she ever touches a musical instrument again.
Needs and Rewards
Thank you for doing this camp and allowing scholarships, because without it I couldn't have come here this week. - Juliana, camper.
We believe every girl should have the chance to attend camp, and we don't turn anyone away for lack of funds. At our first session in 2014, 70% of campers attended QCRC for free. Thanks to our generous business sponsors and individual donors, we were able to cover the cost of our facility and showcase venue, insurance, T-shirt printing, food, and volunteer background checks. We are so grateful to everyone who made last year a success.
I have had the best time here. - Natalie, camper.
This year, with an enrollment capacity of fifty campers, each of those expenses has grown. We've also added an advertising budget in order to reach more families. We are currently working on QCRC's 501(c)3 nonprofit certification, but in the meantime we are ineligible for most major grants and corporate sponsorships. Individual donations remain the bedrock of our operations.
I didn’t really want to perform in front of people, but I did anyway and it was so much fun. … I’m not as timid in front of people. I can talk to new people more easily than I did before, and I can approach people more easily. - Nora, camper.
Along with our benefit show on May 30th at Patton Alley Pub in downtown Springfield, this campaign will cover a large portion of our expenses and allow us to host camp without relying on tuition money. This is a Flex Funding campaign, so even if we don't reach our goal of covering tuition for twelve campers, your contribution will still allow girls to attend rock camp for free. In exchange, we have some pretty sweet rock camp merch to send you, including buttons, T-shirts, and the very last hand printed QCRC schwag bags from the 2014 session!
