Short Summary

Hello! We are Alan Arvizu and Jocelyn Gallegos, the two young filmmakers behind Sense and Avoid the short film. While attending college for film, we wanted to create something we are passionate about and learn from it to grow as creatives. Sense and Avoid is a story about how technology can provide a humanistic comfort when the real thing is just too difficult to grasp. This project is so important to us because these types of stories deserve to be visualized and start conversations and we want to help do that.

What We Need & What You Get

This film will have a $500 budget. We are contributing $300 between the two of us while we hope to reach $200 through our supporters. Your funds will go towards feeding our amazing cast and crew, wardrobe/props for our universe, location fees and more! We are very excited about the perks that our supporters will receive and can’t wait for you to watch our film!

The Impact

This project is extremely valuable to our communities because it will spotlight the stigmas around mental illness that are still prevalent within the Latinx culture. We care to make art for us and our people. Jocelyn has created short films and documentaries about Mexican/Latinx stories and has been a cinematographer for a number of projects. These stories have resonated with those who have watched them and inspire her to do more. Alan has also participated in the production of short films and believes more stories of the Mexican/Latinx diaspora should be paid attention to. This fuels his ambition to create projects that include these themes and is excited to embark on this film. This project is so real for us. And we want you to join us.

Risks & Challenges

Any project that requires money also requires responsibility. We are prepared to solve any challenges that may come our way - and trust us there will be! Through our studies, we have had experience with facing hurdles in producing, directing, and filming on small to medium sets so we are confident and ready to make a fantastic short film above anything else.
