The Film

Project Logline
While clearing out their aunt’s garage, alienated sisters Mila and Eloise, start re-discovering their friendship when they both needed it most.

Brief Synopsis
MILA (24) and ELOISE (18) reunite at their Aunt's house to help her sort through the garage in preparation for her move. The sisters have been apart a while, Mila works full time at a law firm in the city, while Eloise has just graduated from boarding school. Mila has been feeling unwell for a few days now, and decides to take a pregnancy test before going to her Aunt's for the weekend. Eloise oversleeps, and doesn't greet Mila until after she's arrived and started sorting. The sisters' organizational skills don't align much as they dig through the old memorabilia, and Eloise keeps reminiscing about toys and memories from their childhood. Although unintentional, this causes a growing frustration for Mila as she feels wildly unprepared to be a mother. The sisters argue, creating a greater divide than there already was. Eloise decides to take matters into her own hands by giving Mila reassurance about her potential pregnancy. Together they refurbish an old cot, and Mila finally finds a support system in her sister.

ELOISE (18, Female)
About to embark on her gap year, the carefree sister spent her adolescence in boarding school. She is playful and easy going, with no rush to plan her future.

Meet the Team

Writer/Director

I'm Lara, born in Switzerland but raised by German-Argentine parents. I am super excited to be on set as a director again, and make this film a reality. My sister and I clashed a lot growing up, and it inspired me to explore what sibling relationships are like when we aren't home anymore. This project has been so much fun to create already, and we would love your support with the process to come!

Producer

I'm Teena, a Lebanese-German independent producer based in London and honored to be a close friend (best friend if she’s willing) of Lara Kuppel. I love producing and engaging with heartfelt, character and relationship based stories and am very excited to make this very sweet project come to life!

Director of Photography

Hiya I’m Robyn, I have the joy of working as Director of Photography on "Sestra". I can’t wait to be working with Lara again and being able to bring this warm and beautiful story to the screen. I am excited to visually demonstrate the characters moods and differences while experiment with framing to expand the tensions in their dynamic.
