Sailing Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
Great sailors seem to have an instinct for harnessing the wind. They fine-tune their sails with precision, using their deep knowledge of aerodynamics, physics, and the art of sail trim.
…and then there’s the rest of us—just trying to have a good time!
If you’re in the “just trying to have a good time” group, like me, then you’ll love my new book: Setting Sail: Quick-Reference Sail Trim Cards.
Why I Created This Book
I’ve been sailing for years. I’m competent, experienced—but I still find myself second-guessing where to set my boom vang or how to adjust my traveler in different wind conditions.
To make life easier, I created a quick-reference book that visually shows you exactly how to trim your sails for any wind condition and point of sail.
The paperback version quickly hit #1 on Amazon’s sailing books list. But I knew it could be even better—so I made a waterproof, durable, plastic version that can handle life on a boat.
Now, through this Indiegogo campaign, you can be one of the first to get this unique guide for yourself—or grab extras for the sailors in your life!
What’s Inside?
This compact, coil-bound book is designed to make sail adjustments simple. It covers:
- All points of sail in light, medium, and heavy wind
- Adjustments for Backstay, Barber Hauler, Boom Vang, Cunningham, Jib/Genoa Cars, Halyards, Outhaul, and Traveler
- Tabbed sections so you can instantly flip to the right settings
- Waterproof pages—toss it on the deck, spill a drink, no worries!
For example, if you’re close-hauled in heavy wind, just flip to the right section, and you’ll see:

So, when sailing close hauled in heavy wind set your Traveler low to spill air and reduce heel and set the Jib Cars aft to spill air from the top of the sail.
No more second-guessing. No more scrambling through complicated sailing manuals. Just quick, clear answers when you need them.
Why This Book is Different
There’s never been a simpler, more useful sailing guide. It’s made for real-world sailors—whether you’re cruising with friends, racing in a regatta, or teaching someone new. I personally use it with my crew, and my son relies on it when competing.
