Greetings, my name is Kamal Ani-Bello and I'm a young filmmaker from Miami, FL where the weather is always shot ready! I am a beginning director and writer however, I am not new to the film industry as I have started off as a child actor starring in multiple feature films and shorts as, well as  some commercials. I was fortunate enough to create my first short film last year called Pound Cake which went on to be shown in many film festivals around the world.  Learning from my first own production really equipped me to have a even more successful outcome with my new script SHELLE.

Coming of Age
is the only way I can describe this new story, this may be the most important story I’ve ever written in my life because it is based off my Mother’s tragic accident. While having the burden of being a young black girl in the 70’s she didn’t only deal with a  discriminative society but, also having to build her self-confidence. I believe this story will open a new dialogue about representation in film that has never been talked about.  From her visible burns to what doesn’t equate to â€˜beauty’ in the film industry.  What I hope the audience gather from this film is that “When you accept your flaws, that is when you’ve finally activated your powers”. As the Director of this film I have confidence that I will not only pull from the emotional background of my mother but, also from my own. Dealing with self doubt isn’t spoken about a lot within the male community, so having the chance to share my own experience of emotions with this film will ultimately allow me to create and direct this film the best way possible.

When it comes to finding funding for a film I am not the most experienced because I usually use my own money from my day job but, I learned that there are people out there that truly lovers of  film and are willing to support small indie filmmakers. Being able fund 100% this movie would be a dream come true. We're looking for $10,000 dollars to hire crew, crafty, and put towards production for the entire 4 day shoot of this film.  Depending on how much you donate you will receive different perks such as:

-Receiving the whole script

-Behind the scenes footage

-End Credits and etc.

The risk this film provide is just as any other film, it may not receive the notoriety every filmmaker longs for also, it just may be created and posted online as a opportunity for others to see and enjoy after a long festival run. However, the message and impact will still be there for any black young girl that needs to see this story.

Other Ways You Can Help
