Our Story
Shooting Wall is a film collective in Philadelphia, PA. We want to put on this film festival to exhibit premier local films that are doing new things with the medium. The idea of this festival is to help with the exorbitant cost of film festival admission fees. Whoever submits the best local films and in-turn gets into our festival will get to have their work exhibited to the film community in Philadelphia, but also get an even split of whatever money we raise. This money will be given to them through withoutabox.com to be used to send the film to other film festivals.
The Impact
Our campaign is to support real independent Philadelphia film. The films we're going to accept into the festival are going to be by people who are doing new and exciting things with the medium. People who we see as the future of cinema. As a collective we're going to give up time and sleep to help these local filmmakers make the films by donating our equipment, producing their films, or whatever they need to get the films done. We're going to be putting a lot of work into helping the film community and we're not even going to ask for a single cent. All we want is to see the best in Philadelphia film get seen by as many people as possible. Film festivals though are ponzi schemes, on average their submission fees are $50, you might not even get in, and after a few festivals you out a couple hundred dollars. It is ridiculous, film festivals should want to exhibit the best in cinema at present and not just pay for the salaries of the people that run them.
What We Need & What You Get
We want $2000 because we expect 10 or more filmmakers. If the money is split evenly that would give those who get into the festival around couple hundred each, that is a few film festival submissions right there for them. If we don't reach our goal we will still have the festival and split the money evenly. None of the funds go to paying Shooting Wall or for the festival, we will cover that.
Other Ways You Can Help
Donating food or drink, donating the use of your equipment, if you're an actor letting us use you in the films, sending us links to films by good local Philadelphia filmmakers, and letting people know about our festival if you have a blog of if you're journalist.
