THE STORY
We are in 2030, in a dystopian world where social networks have taken a prominent place. Human extinction is planned. Nathalia, an influencer active on TikTok, lives almost through her videos, trying to revolutionize the world with her content. However, despite her popularity online, she still carries with her the pain of the absence of her brother, Gabriel, who left six years ago without explanation, leaving behind a hurt and angry Nathalia, even more so, since the death of their mother four years ago.
When Gabriel resurfaces after all this time, Nathalia is torn between anger and the desire to understand. Finally agreeing to spend a day with him, she gradually discovers the secrets he has kept all these years. Nathalia discovers that Gabriel didn't just abandon the family for no reason, but carried a heavy burden alone, hiding a secret that was eating away at him.
WHO IS LOLA?
Lola Hourlier will be the DIRECTOR of UNTIL THE END OF US. They are a visual artist and videographer currently studying at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art de Dunkerque Tourcoing in northern France. Today they live in Porto. Their work gives visibility to the queer community and, more broadly, to marginalized social classes.
This is done through an image conception that demonstrates or suggests migratory flows between two distinct spaces that show different and dissonant lines and forms between them. Today, between dystopia and anticipation, they are inspired by Soleil Vert, L'Effondrement, and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. They have already made several films and worked with numerous directors. Pablo Servigne's reflection on collapse and Frédéric Lordon's eco-anxiety have greatly inspired her to write this film.
WHY THIS FILM?
This film emerges from the urgency of our times. We are witnessing the decline of resources, the ravages of climate change and the saturation of our societies by unbridled consumerism. The peak of conventional oil is already behind us, and the peak of unconventional oil is fast approaching. Our world is overflowing with abundance for some, while others are starving. We are facing an unprecedented existential crisis, where false selfish happiness weighs with all its weight on our fragile shoulders.
HOW ARE WE USING THE FUNDS
Since this is a student project, our funds to produce it are very limited. That's where you come in! If we can reach our goal, the money would be used to several important aspects:
- Feed everyone in the technical and artistic crew
- Rent all the film equipment we need
- Having a kick-ass production design
- Transporting the crew and equipment around Porto
- Distributing the film through international film festivals
