Finn is a reserved young man, who since he was a child, has been finding comfort in the interactions he has with the people in his dreams. Whereas his relationships in the real world have grown to be dry and detached. Until one day, when he starts to dream of a scared little girl, who asks for his help.
His dreams and reality merge when he sees an article of a kidnapped girl, which bears a striking resemblance to the girl in his dreams. Now with her life in his hands, he will have to step out of his comfort zone in order to save her.

We see this as a character driven story with surreal elements. Focusing on Finns experience and how this will change him forever. The little girl is almost a reflection of his own insecurities, and in helping her, he can also start helping himself.
The core of the story is an emotional journey that many people have had to go through in real life. The struggles of opening up is the biggest theme in the story, especially the idea that asking for help can sometimes feel like a life or death situation.
Using the dreamscapes as more than just an excuse to be flashy, every element of the film is there to expand on our characters and delve deeper into their psyche.

Cast:
The majority of our funds will go towards the casting process and the fees for our actors. We want to pay all cast members a respectable fee for their hard work and to ensure ethical and industry standards are followed.
Logistics:
Another big part of our funds is allocated towards transportation to Wittering, West Sussex. Most of our film will be shot there and we want to ensure safe equipment transportation and comfortable cast and crew travel and accommodation.
Catering:
We aim to provide on-set catering for our team for all shooting days. Long hours on set requires a good food to keep the team happy and productive.
Equipment:
A part of our funds will go towards equipment rent. Most of it will be provided by the university, but to be able to shoot with Alexa mini for all days we will have to use outside resources. We want to make a visually pleasant film and good equipment will help to reach our goal easier.
Location:
To allow us to present the story in a most pleasant way possible we will have to put some funds towards locations. One of the locations will be a flat in Wittering which we are planning to rent using Airbnb for the realistic look. The second one that will require paying will be a bus or a train for short sequences that we will use to show our main characters life.
Edit/Music:
After production is finished, we will enter the post-production phase, where some budget will be needed to cover music licensing and foley. We want to ensure we have enough money to cover ADR if it’s needed and other costs that might occur during post-production.
Pre-production/Marketing:
This money will be used to cover the expenses during pre-production process such as creating trailer and teaser trailer. We use it to pay for printing the posters and film logos.
Contingency:
In filmmaking, you have to be ready for anything. We will allocate some of the budget in case of any obstacles that could occur in order to keep a good workflow.
And that is all!
If you have any further questions regarding our film making, how the funds will be distributed and etc., please let us know and contact the production via still.picturesfilms@gmail.com.
Thank You!

Hi there! I am the writer and director of Detached. This is an idea that I've had for a long time, and I can’t wait to finally bring it to life. Having built up my experience over the years, I aim to capture authentic human problems and tell them in an artistic and creative manner. The aim is to create a short film that can be enjoyed both on the surface, as well as on a deeper level.

I have a huge trust in my crew members and I believe together we can bring a great film to our audience.

Director of Photography – Ben Marlow
Hey I’m Ben, the Director of Photography for this short film. I will be operating the camera and designing the lighting. I will help tell the story through both artistic and technical decisions. Creating isolating framing and composition, placing Finn alone in each scene. Additionally, I want to juxtapose the cinematic dream sequences with the monotony of his daily life. Using my experience from my previous short films and camera work, I aim to create attractive visuals that will aid the delivery of our creative and exciting script.

Production Designer – Joe Anderson
Hello I’m Joe, I am responsible for the production design on this project ‘Detached’. I want to use large expanses of space to convey a sense of isolation that the main character, Finn, feels at the beginning. I want to use the change in colour palette of the costumes and props to show a shift in mood of Finn. I am looking forward to working on this project, creating an engaging film through my production design and bringing the writer/director’s vision to life.

Sound – Max Lancaster
Hello, I’m Max, the head of sound for this short film ‘Detached’. Using my previous experience working in sound on short films and documentaries - my aim throughout is to capture and create a suspended soundscape for the story to unfold. With the sense of ‘reality vs dream’ I will need to have a creative sound mix to make the transitions feel realistic and meaningful for the viewers. With little dialogue from our protagonist, sound will be acting as his dialogue, filling the empty sounds of silence with his own movements in the environments around him.
