Siki's Roastery…
Just saying these words out loud already brings goosebumps to me, Sikelela Dibela, owner of Siki's Koffee Kafe. After the 5 year anniversary of my business, a big milestone, it’s time for the next step.
When the pandemic started, I went in survival mode like most entrepreneurs, using my creativity and perseverance to get my business through this tough time. And I did, mostly because I managed to grow my local customer base significantly prior to covid, which made me less dependent on tourists visiting. But survival is not what I am here for. My journey has only just started and to grow my impact on the coffee culture and community in Khayelitsha, I need to take the next step. Not only brewing great quality coffee, but also roasting the beans. YES, IT’S TIME FOR SIKI'S ROASTERY!
Why a roastery?
-
Independence - Being able to roast my own beans, allows me to become more independent and share my vision on coffee as well as an opportunity to scale.
-
Education - By adding a roastery to my coffee shop, I aim to educate young talented people of Khayelitsha in the world of coffee but also inspire them in terms of creativity and entrepreneurship.
-
Employment - Scaling my business in the heart of Khayelitsha means I will be able to hire more talents from the community.
-
Empowerment - Of myself, co-entrepreneurs, creatives and the community by being an example of what is possible here, by enabling conversation in my space, by giving talents opportunities to grow.
-
Sustainability - Siki's Roastery will stand for sustainable quality coffee made with the creative and entrepreneurial spirits of Khayelitsha.
-
Transparency - Not just one blend, but multiple sustainable single origins with a transparent value chain, all the way up to the African farmer.
Funding need
To set up the roastery, a substantial initial capital investment is required. The main portion of this investment is for the roasting machine and sourcing the green beans. I have already secured part of the required investment, but I need all the support I can get to realise my dream. The crowdfunding target is based on an extensive business case. Please find below more details on how we got to this. I believe it's possible to reach this target. But it’s not going to be easy. All support is welcome, small or large, whatever you can or are willing to spend. By investing in Siki's Roastery, you are also investing in a better Khayelitsha and South Africa. I believe in the future of Khayelitsha. I believe change is coming and I invite you to join us and become part of this change.
Funding goal breakdown
I would like to be transparent in how we got to the funding goal of €13.000 (R225,000). The aim is that all costs for year 1 will be covered by investments. Please see the breakdown below.
Total estimated costs Y1: €21.565 (R366.700):
- Roasting machine and additional equipment - €7.290 (R124.000)
- Salaries - €5.090 (R86.500)
- Materials (beans and packaging) - €7.350 (R125.000)
- Logistics - €1.835 (R31.200)
About 55% will need to come from this crowdfunding campaign. We also need to include Indiegogo & processing fees (8-10%). That's how we got to €13.000.
