Short Summary
Sister Jerome's Poor is a new program sponsored by The Ursuline Center to help needy working families and college students struggling to pay bills. With rising costs and job losses, there are acute needs experienced by the working poor, and few or no resources to help in emergencies. The program does not duplicate existing services.
What We Need & What You Get
For 2012-2013, a total goal of $60,000 is set, with $40,000 going directly to relief and $20,000 for operating expenses. Sister Jerome will take $0 in salary. At this time we have received $27,000 with $33,000 still needed. Your donation, regardless of dollar amount, will help families and students with everything from food vouchers to gas cards to gift cards for shoes, clothes, and school uniforms.
The Impact
As there are no other programs that provide emergency help to working families and college students, you can be sure your donation will go directly to helping someone who desperately needs it. Sister Jerome has been working with the poor in Youngstown since 1976, first with Millcreek Children's Center and then with Youngstown Community School. At 96 years young, she still feels she can help the poor in the Youngstown area.
Other Ways You Can Help
Even if you can't donate monetarily, you can still help. You can spread the word in your community of this ministry. You can ask your company if they are looking for a worthy organization to help out at the holidays. (Sister Jerome's Poor has a plan for gifts for working college students for the holiday season.) You can simply say a prayer that our campaign is a success! We are grateful for anything you can do!
