Hello, my name is Tina Crouse
and I’m the producer of the documentary SKIRTS! Canadian Women in Social
Finance. Canada has a long history in social finance, a long
cultural history but it’s over-shadowed by the US and the UK so no one knows
it. And funny enough, while all over the world, people are being told how
important it is to put women in leadership positions, here in Canada, we’ve
been doing it for more than 30 years!
In this documentary, you will be
introduced to 10 female ‘stars’ in the social finance field and I guarantee,
you’re going to like them. Charming, charismatic, intelligent, committed and of
course, visionaries. How could they not be? They got us all here.
In being part of this film
project, I’m asking you to join a movement, the ‘I freakin’ love social
finance’ movement. Why? Because this is how we change the world - we shift
priorities, we teach people how to marry profit and social benefits and we do
good work!
What We Need & What You Get
For this campaign,
we need $9,300. This is the 10% of the total budget needed to get the project
going. It will take 5 of us: Producer; Director; Sound;
Camera and Editor to get the story told and we’ll have to travel to 3 different
locations; Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver because Canada is that big. To tell
the story of each of these amazing women, we’ll have site fees, insurance fees,
legal costs (mandatory), equipment rental and facility charges. This is not a
home video! Their stories and our’s deserve a top quality documentary and that
is why we are reaching out to you to help make it happen.

You’ll be able to get a digital copy through a secure password portal. Also,
additional perks will include the full interviews of the women themselves;
uncut or Director’s cut, you’ll hear and see what each woman accomplished, how
long it took, what skills were needed, who helped (because she didn’t do it
alone and each woman will tell you that).
The Impact
In the social finance field, we all talk impact. What impact will this
have? How much impact will be experienced? With this film, our long history and in
particular, these last 30 years, will show the world what Canada has been up
to. We’ve been changing lives, changing laws and changing business. We have broad
sector appeal if just more Canadians knew about us. It’s time for us to tell
our story.
Risks & Challenges
As the producer, it’s my job to raise the money and coordinate the moving pieces. As I manage the film project, it frees the director to do her job which allows the camera and sound people to do their’s and finally, for the editor to polish it all so it’s worthy of release. If we don’t raise all of our funds through Indiegogo, we’ll keep going. The film is going to get made, perks will be honoured and one day, you’ll get to meet these 10 amazing women. For 20 years, I’ve been raising money and managing projects for non-profits and small businesses and for the past 5 years, I’ve been intimately involved with the inner workings of how we use social finance to enable the changemakers of Canada and the world to get things done. I even coach in this field. It’s your help we need because ‘collaboration’ is another thing we have to show the world and I think we’re pretty good at it.
