Update:
I know not everyone checks or recieves the actual campaign updates, so I'm putting this here as well. While making sure that my file format was right for the site, I found out that the custom boxes cost extra per deck. After thinking about it, it's still important to me that these come with custom boxes, it was the whole reason for doing this, and I didn't totally expect to even hit this goal so I was planning on paying out of pocket anyways. So, I'm still going to order them, but it means some changes.
Including the Indiegogo Fees, I'm now going to have to raise $635 to cover the costs, and the Get A Deck perks are also too low, so I increased them. I'm really sorry about this mix-up, this is my first time doing this and there were bound to be some.
People who already got the "Get a Deck" perk do NOT have to give more money! It was my mistake, you paid as much as I asked for, I'm very grateful for it. I'm just going to look at these as a discount for helping me reach my first goal. :)
Who I Am
I'm a college senior and parent working towards my BA in art at Connecticut College. I have most experience with painting, both digital and traditional, as well as drawing and sculpture. I'll be graduating from college this May and am working on my senior thesis.
About the deck and why I need help
The deck is a functional, 52 card+Joker, poker sized, four color deck that can be used in pretty much any card game. It is inspired by divination, tying into the historical use of playing cards in divination, and incorporates astrology, tarot, and the elements.
The number cards can be seen here (they'll be touched up to improve legibility and other aesthetics) and the paintings for the face cards that have been finished can be seen here.
To be able to get a deck with its own, custom box I'll need to order at least 100. As you can imagine, this is a bit expensive. I also don't need all 100 decks, and would love to be able to offer them to people. Unfortunately, I can't offer this for free because of the costs of printing and shipping.
The cost of 100 decks is something that will be a real struggle for me to afford on my own, but if it's spread across enough people it's a lot more manageable. Even if you can't afford a lot, if you could spare even $1 that will be a huge help. If you can afford to give more than the perks offer, I will be incredibly grateful. If I get any really huge donations, I'll work out a special perk with the donor.
What Your Donations Will Go Towards
All of the money donated up to the goal of $500 goes towards printing the decks and Indiegogo's fees. Now that we've met our goal, extra money will go towards other costs associated with this project- packaging & shipping the decks out,
framing the paintings, paper for the woodblock prints, anything else
needed to set up the exhibition. I'm still not entirely sure how much
this will run me. Money raised above that will go towards recouping what I spent on supplies. Anything beyond that will go towards living expenses and art materials so that I can continue practicing art in the future.
Stretch Goals
Stretch goals are incentives for people to continue donating even after the base goal has been met. There are other costs associated with my senior exhibition and raising enough money to meet them would be hugely helpful!
Stretch Goals Met! I'll be making custom thank-you cards to be mailed out with all decks, and include a custom inked sketch in each card of the animal or plant of your choosing. (note: this may push back the date of delivery) If I have time, I may color the sketches with pencil/marker.
If we raise $2,000 I'll make time, and will guarantee to color all of the sketches.
If we somehow manage to raise over $5,000, I will write up a way to use this specific deck in divination, incorporating the mythology behind the constellations as well as the card's traditional divinatory meaning, and make it available online. I cannot guarantee when this will be available.
If we raise $10,000, aside from my undying gratitude at this show of support, I'll look into what I need to do a special printing of the deck with the guide book from the previous goal in it. Contributors to this campaign will get a discount and be the first to know about it when this happens. I don't totally know what would be involved in this, but I'll do my best to make it happen.
Perks
Perks are incentives to give money. The first two perks are basically more pre-orders for the deck, but the rest include one of a kind artwork by the artist. All of the perk levels come with a deck. If you would like multiple perks (ex. the drawing for a number card and the pheonix print) but don't want multiple decks, please get in touch with me either through Indiegogo or email and we'll work it out.
All of the perk levels come with a deck. Please be aware that the lowest perk level is only available for Connecticut College students, faculty, and staff that can receive the decks through the campus mail system. The additional cost on the regular 'Get A Deck' is to cover the cost of shipping.
