What we're about...
My name is Dan Myrick and I'm an independent filmmaker probably best known for co-directing THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (Lionsgate) and more recently directing THE OBJECTIVE (IFC), as well as UNDER THE BED (Radar Pictures/Appian Way). SKYMAN is my latest feature film venture and one that I'm particularly excited about. It is a sci-fi/docu-drama that has been a labor of love for quite sometime, inspired by a fascination with UFO subculture. Having worked in the Hollywood system for many years, I know all too well how an original concept can get quickly watered down in an effort to appeal to the masses. This film is a way for me to re-connect with my filmmaking roots and retain a level of creative control that would otherwise be impossible in today's filmmaking environment.

One of the great experiences I had on Blair Witch as a filmmaker was the family-like atmosphere that allowed for a free expression of ideas, feedback and critique with those of whom I trusted. Too often nowadays filmmakers are forced to forego their artistic vision in lieu of a decision making process "managed by a committee" not of their own choosing. The end result can be very unsatisfying for both the filmmaker and the audience. My plan is to make SKYMAN with the kind of people that I’ve come to know and trust over the years, within an environment that allows for us to take some creative risks while keeping within a very streamlined, unencumbered production process...AND THAT INCLUDES YOU!
As a filmmaker, I have a long track record of writing and directing my own projects, not to mention, producing and editing. I have a broad skill base that covers all phases of production and post and I currently work out of my own studio (Gang of Robots, Inc.) in Los Angeles that houses camera and post-production facilities which allow me a great degree of creative latitude while keeping my costs under control.
SKYMAN is the perfect project for me to utilize this revolutionary crowdfunding format, because at the end of the day, I MAKE FILMS FOR YOU, not the middlemen that have come to define what does and does not get made. Online Casting - Back in the days of THE OBJECTIVE, we held online castings for some of the roles. Well, this time we're doing it again for SKYMAN. When we start the casting process in the coming weeks, you can sign up as a member to the SKYMAN site (www.skymanthemovie.com) to download character sides and upload your best audition. If we like what we see, we'll be calling you!

VR / Behind-the Scenes - Yeah, we're geeks. We love the new VR technology and plan to use it through our behind-the-scenes coverage. If you grab a "SECRET LINKS" Perk, you'll have a front row seat for anything and everything we upload to the SKYMAN site.

Dan Myrick - Writer/Director
Daniel Myrick - Myrick is best known for his work as Director on THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Considered a seminal work in low budget filmmaking, TBWP ushered in a new methodology of production and grass roots marketing. Myrick then wrote and directed the post-Katrina production SOLSTICE, starring Elisabeth Harnois, Amanda Seyfried and Shawn Ashmore. Shortly afterwards, Myrick teamed up with Tony Krantz (EP on 24) and John Shiban (EP on X-FILES) to produce six films under their RAW FEED label with Warner Brothers. Following this was THE OBJECTIVE, Myrick’s sci-fi/thriller shot in the rural Berber villages of Morocco, which had its world premiere at the prestigious TriBeCa Film Festival and was distributed by IFC films. His latest film, “UNDER THE BED”, is a psychological thriller about a Stalker’s obsession and is just finishing up post-production.

Joe Restaino - Producer
Joe has programmed several film festivals around the country and produced the films: Chu and Blossom, starring Alan Cumming, Melanie Lynskey and Annie Potts, Albion: The Enchanted Stallion with Oscar Nominated John Cleese, Debra Messing, Jennifer Morrison and Stephen Dorff. He Executive Produced Sex Ed, starring Oscar Nominated Haley Joel Osment, which was released theatrically in November 2014. His film Apple of My Eye, starring Oscar Nominated Burt Reynolds and Amy Smart recently sold to Sony Worldwide and is scheduled for a January release.

Web Guru - Daniel Karcher
Mr. Karcher helped design and maintain the original Blair Witch site and has since been involved with numerous indie-film campaigns over the years. You can see his work at: www.bluedaniel.com. He'll be playing an intregal role in the design and maintenance of the SKYMAN, online universe. Mr. Karcher will also be on the ground during production, giving the fans the play-by-play, warts and all, for those of you interested in the down and dirty of independent filmmaking.
