A: Simply use the button and dial system on the device to choose and dispense the desired amount of salt or use the app for more advanced functions. Once the salt is dispensed into the tray below, simply remove it and add salt to your dish or pick up the SMALT itself and sprinkle on your plate.

Q: How is SMALT different from Amazon Alexa?

A: Alexa is a voice interface for connected home devices. Using a simple voice command you can ask Alexa to dispense salt from your SMALT.  SMALT has a built in mood- light and SMALT measures and dispenses salt. Alexa does not have these functions.

Q: Can I put pepper in SMALT?

A: No, because SMALT is only designed to measure, track, and control salt. 

Q: How do I change the mood light color?

A: You can control the mood light directly from the SMALT unit by turning the dial or from your smartphone via the SMALT App, which gives you the freedom to choose the desired color and set the perfect ambiance for any occasion.

Q: Do I have to have the SMALT App to operate SMALT?

A: No, all standard functions are available on the SMALT unit itself.  You can change the mood light color, control the speaker, and dispense salt easily with the touch of a button.

A: SMALT comes with a 3.6V rechargeable battery. Normally it takes a couple of hours to charge the battery and when fully charged, the battery lasts up to 4 hours.

Q: Does SMALT pair with other devices besides Amazon Alexa?

A: Currently you can integrate SMALT only with Amazon Alexa. We will integrate SMALT with other platforms in the near future.

A:  You can pair SMALT with your phone to stream music through SMALT’s Bluetooth speaker.

A: SMALT is designed to be used with common table salt.

Q: Can I use SMALT to grind sea salt or other coarser salts like Himalayan salt?

A: SMALT does not grind salt.  You can use any pre-ground with a consistency similar to the table salt  with SMALT.

Q: How do I know what setting to use when I am preparing different foods?

A: You can dispense salt in amounts as low as a pinch or as high as one tablespoon with several denominations in between.  The amount you pick is dependent on your taste or dietary restrictions.

A:  Every time you dispense salt, the amount of sodium gets logged.  Each serving of sodium is tracked by the app.  You can track each family member’s consumption separately.
