SMILE Blankets

Our Story

Our names are John & Kara Huntinghouse and Demetrius and Audrey Matuauto.  We're the co-founders of the SMILE blankets.  The idea for this campaign started when our (John and Kara) one day old baby was admitted to Primary Children’s Hospital and diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s Disease.  After spending over a week in the hospital we were greatly impacted by the donations we received during our stay.  We have always wanted to help other families who are going through similar situations.

As we were talking with our friends Demetrius and Audrey, we found out that they were in the process of making and donating blankets to the children’s hospital in our city.  We loved this idea and created the SMILE blankets.  

When a child is in the hospital, all the small things add up.  When they are sick and spend all of their time in the same place day after day, little things start becoming miracles.  SMILE is an acronym for “Small miracles in life everyday.”  Please help us remind these children to look for the small miracles in their lives everyday.  

How the Process Works

It’s easy!  When you buy a SMILE blanket, we will donate a SMILE blanket to a sick child in a hospital. When you buy two SMILE blankets, we will donate two SMILE blankets to two children.  

When that child has their blanket with the SMILE logo, not only will they be comforted but they will be reminded to look for the small, everyday miracles that happen in their lives.

Along with receiving your blanket in the mail you will be notified which hospital your blanket was donated to. When blanket orders are processed you will be able to visit our Facebook page to see the updated photographs and places to which we are donating.

FAQ:

Q: When do I choose the color of my blanket?
A:  Once the campaign has been fully funded, we will be contacting the contributors for their color choice directly.

Q:  Do you have additional colors?
A:  We will update the campaign with any additional colors that come available.

Q:  When should I expect the blankets to arrive?
A:  We expect that it will take around 2 months from when the campaign ends to receive your blanket.

Q:  Does this include shipping?
A:  Yes, for any order placed in the continental US, shipping is included in the cost.  For international shipments, please add $25 to your contribution for shipping.
