Crafting Tomorrow’s Filmmakers; 6 Independent Short Films in 1 Year
Passionate about the arts? Love making or watching films? Want to make an impact on the next generation of Kiwi filmmakers?
Snap Shot Shorts is back for a SECOND SEASON and we need YOUR HELP to kickstart yet another exciting filmmaking journey for our emerging filmmakers and Snap Shot supporters!
We're producing SIX independent short films that challenge us as filmmakers and engage our audiences from the behind-the-scenes magic to the big screen premiere! (Watch the video above and find our TEASER for the six films to come!)
Are you new to our series? OUR MISSION STATEMENT ⬇️
Snap Shot Shorts is a short film series that aims to bridge the gap between young filmmakers and the film industry via monthly short films.
Season One saw us reaching our goal of releasing 12 films in 12 months, garnering a collective 38,000+ views on our YouTube channel and hosting an almost-sold-out Wellington screening event at The Embassy (yes, the same place Lord of The Rings premiered!!)
HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?
Season One was our trial run and lo and behold, we did what we set out to do! (Despite being the little guys, we can dream and do BIG THINGS!) Now with Season Two in the works, we will be optimizing Season One's structure and processes to ensure bigger and better productions.
To achieve this, we will be making three major and important changes;
- Producing 6 films instead of 12 (less is more!)
- Giving each film its own film festival circuit (they'll be released on YouTube after its public premiere at the end of the year!)
- Being a space for talent development through accessible industry-led workshops
Our tap-in-tap-out volunteer system allows autonomy, collaboration and initiative to grow within our community. It also means that filmmakers from Massey, Victoria, Yoobee, Whitireia, freelancers and other creative spaces are all collaborating!
All profits raised from this IndieGogo and various other fundraisers will immediately go into the series and impact the directly involved filmmakers. This will look like:
- Catering yummy and fulfilling meals for our cast and crews!
- Paying our awesome actors!
- All the in-between production costs like equipment hire, production design and costumes!
WHY ARE PROJECTS LIKE 'SNAP SHOT SHORTS' IMPORTANT TO THE NEW ZEALAND ARTS INDUSTRY?
Our number one priority is, and will always be the promotion of opportunities to young filmmakers. With very little short film support for upcoming filmmakers through the New Zealand Film Commission, we at Snap Shot Shorts believe this is our chance to fill that gap.
The entire Snap Shot Shorts system is built around the prevention of the “flame” being snuffed out. We are committed to providing the best low-budget environments to encourage freedom of expression, creativity and exploration, all in the hope that young filmmakers living in this city realise that they have a chance to flourish, all they need is hunger, desire and the willingness to join in.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
We understand that not everyone can donate, so please, help us by sharing our story and telling your friends and whānau to spread the word or donate if they can! Don't forget to use the Indiegogo share tools!
