We are very happy to announce that Social Tango Project has partnered with Mulata Films, a multi-award-winning Argentine production company, to make our first feature tango film.
We believe that dance is good for us, not only as individuals but also as a society, that's why we want this film to be a tool to spread the value of social tango and inspire more people to join us on the dance floor.
We already have the support of the Argentine National Endowment for the Arts, the Milonga Association of Buenos Aires, the online platform, Hoy Milonga, and milonga organizers from around the world. We want this film to be a co-production and collaboration with the global tango community!

Synopsis
An Argentine choreographer undertakes the challenge of directing a show with a 70-year-old social dancer with no theatrical experience cast as the leading male role. A single performance is her one opportunity to convince a visiting producer to back an international tour. What happens as a result causes her to rethink her relationship to the dance itself.
This story reveals the vulnerability implicit in leaving our comfort zone to learn something new and showcases the intimacy of people who share a passion for tango and it’s social space, the milonga.

About Social Tango Project & Mulata Films
Social Tango Project — our mission is to spread the social value of dance through the creation of performances, music, film and photography with the aspiration to grow tango communities around the world.
Mulata Films — an Argentinian Production Company that has received nominations from the Emmy International Awards, the Japan Prize Award, and International Prix Jeussene, among others. Films produced by Mulata Films productions have been broadcasted on Canal Encuentro, TV Pública, Paka-Paka, Tecnópolis TV, Turner, Movistar, NAT GEO, and Señal Colombia. Mulata Films has received support from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture of Argentina, INCAA and Unicef.
"Tango, those minutes of rematch", is the second co-production between Social Tango Project & Mulata Films. In 2020, Pablo Destito & Agustina Videla co-directed BEING, a dance short film with more than 20 nominations in several international dance film festivals.
Production Breakdown
Our campaign's initial goal will be $50,000 raised through Indiegogo.
This will help cover production and postproduction costs and will provide funds to launch a distribution campaign to share the film.

About the Directors

Agustina Videla
My personal connection to the community began 26 years ago when I became a dancer and teacher of tango. Since then, I have given classes and performed in exhibitions internationally.
I have always been excited to see how discovering tango can transform a person's life by providing a shared space of creativity and community. For many people, this journey begins in a milonga. My artistic motivation for creating the Social Tango Project was to honor the amateur dancers who meet and connect in this shared social space.
Around the age of 30, I entered a challenging phase of motherhood. My son was diagnosed with autism which forced me to stop and rethink my way of seeing the world. As I accompanied my son, I began to see the importance of stories to reframe and give meaning to our experiences.
Sharing the insights I encounter as a dancer, mother, and human being expresses how I see tango.

Pablo Destito
In my 20 years of creating audiovisual content for television networks, I have always chosen projects that open up new worlds because I am passionate about discovering them and sharing that experience.
Four years ago, Agustina came to our studio and opened up her world to me. What she brought me was something that has captivated me since I was a child, and which is related to my personal history, in particular to the memory of my father. This project brought me images that completed fragments of childhood memories or perhaps helped me recreate the images that I never managed to complete.
Agustina, with her vision and her dance, opened up a different dimension of tango for me and raised new questions that added to the ones I always tried to decipher by watching tango from the table in a milonga. Being able to bring this intimate perspective on the embrace of tango dancing, thanks to the generosity of the team of humans that offered themselves in this quest, gives me a sense of purpose.

Pablo is the Director of Mulata Films. He directed Mentira la verdad (with 3 Emmy International Awards nominations, winner of the Japan Prize Award and CINECITA COLOMBIA), Presentes (nominated for Emmy International Kids Awards, winner of CINECITA COLOMBIA and Prix Jeussene), Grooming (nominated for Seoul International Drama Awards for Best TV Movie and Best Director), El informe Kliksberg (nominated for Emmy International Awards) among other programs. He also co-directed with Agustina Videla the short film Being (a co-production with Social Tango Project with more than 20 nominations at international dance film festivals).
