We are Solid 8 and we are creating a webseries!
Nicki, a young actress trying to find her way in
the world of New York theatre and film, constantly runs into professional and
personal obstacles of her own creation. Dealing with career fumbles, personal
and familial tensions, and a near-constant fear of failure lead her to the most
important question every young artist must ask: Is it worth it to even keep
trying?
Anyone who is involved with the creative life will
relate/laugh/cry with this funny, honest and sometimes heart and gut-wrenching
portrayal of one actress’s struggle in the big city.
Did we mention it's funny? Because it's funny, too.
What You’re Getting Into…
Taylor Williams and Magan Carrigan have created a
brilliant 10 episode series and we want to see this project come to life! With
your financial support, you will help fund the month-long production of the
series in October and the post-production phase. This includes, but isn’t
limited to, the following:
1. Paying
for film equipment – the majority of our budget will be going to the rental and
use of professional film equipment to ensure this project is as high-quality as
the story deserves.
2. Paying
talent – we believe in reimbursing artists for their work. We are adamant about
paying our writers, our talented crew members and our SAG actors.
3. Day-to-day
production costs – costumes, props, location fees, craft services…
4. Post-production – the editing and distribution phase, and all social media and marketing
associated with the series.
The Downside
We are operating on a ridiculously shoestring
budget for this production. We are excited to work within these constraints,
but rest assured that every penny will be stretched and very wisely invested.
If we're unable to meet our goal, unfortunately, our production will be put on
indefinite hold.
The Impact
We have created an honest, humorous and thoughtful
series that examines the struggles of young adults today, especially young
artists. It's timely, a little brutal, and an important testament to the need
to create and to foster your own definition of success. It is a
webseries with heart and soul. And it needs to be seen by as many people as
possible.
Risks & Challenges
All creative processes contain a certain amount of
risks and challenges. Filmmaking especially has a penchant for unforeseen
difficulties. However, in true DIY style, we’re excited to embrace these. We’ve
assembled an A+ cast, crew, and team who are all devoted to the process of filmmaking, to
working communally, and to making the most out of the production. We're confident
in our collective talents to make this series, regardless of what comes our
way.
What is a "Solid 8 Surprise Mystery Gift?"
At the $500 level, we will send you a top secret, one-of-a-kind signed item from the first season of Solid 8. This might be a prop from the set, a shooting script, an original draft with handwritten notes, or anything else we think will be special and unique from the filming process. You're guaranteed that your item will be the only one of its kind, signed, and at least a solid 8 (if not a perfect 10).
Other Ways You Can Help
If you have a soft spot for funny people in a funny
webseries and you live in New York City, let us know! We can always use an
extra set of volunteer hands on set. If you're interested, there is plenty of
important and absolutely invaluable work for you to do on our production. So
drop us a line!
