SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT IN NEW YORK (STSANY): DREAMS INTO ACTION!

Hi, everyone!

I am Anna Bartos, Founder/Artistic Director of STSANY and I am thrilled to tell you about what we do.

STSANY helps its members of ALL AGES AND LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE realize their dreams of performing for a live audience or for their own enjoyment, improving their vocal and acting skills, and joining a friendly group of people with similar interestshttp://www.meetup.com/SOMETHING-TO-SING-ABOUT-IN-NEW-YORK/

STSANY provides:

1) Supportive, Affordable Workshops, lessons, master classes with experts;

2) Performance Opportunities: Showcases, informal musicales, concerts, musical plays at low ticket prices or free;

3) VOLUNTEER-OUTREACH: Annual Free Concert in Remembrance of September 11; Caroling in shelters, senior residences, soup kitchens, etc.

4) Purely social events to meet, share ideas, collaborate on artistic projects;

5) Warmth and encouragement to help members pursue their dreams - long lost or newly sought. It helps them develop the courage and self-esteem they need to engage in what makes them happy and fulfilled!

YOUR CONTRIBUTION IS IMPORTANT and APPRECIATED!

Please make a contribution of any amount so we can continue being of service to performers and the community at large. We need funds to rent spaces, pay accompanists, for promotion, travel expenses, etc.

THE IMPACT OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION!

In these tough economic times, performance opportunities and funding for artistic projects has greatly diminished. Artists must do their own fundraising. Help us present beautiful and interesting pieces like The multi-faceted-interdisciplinary Maja The Forgotten Woman - a Musical Drama about Francisco Goya; music by Enrique Granados: Classical Spanish Songs, monologues (in English), dances

Sunday, June 2, 2013; 4:30 p.m., St. Michael's Theater, 229 W. 99th St., New York City, 2nd floor. Contribution. Reception. RSVP: anna.bartos@gmail.com. More below* http://www.meetup.com/SOMETHING-TO-SING-ABOUT-IN-NEW-YORK/?

PLEASE NOTE: MAJA HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THE FALL. OUR APOLOGIES.

MORE THAN MONEY: In Kind Contributions

We need sponsors: Please get the word out to your corporate associations, media contacts, art-loving friends, colleagues and family about STSANY. Encourage them to contribute, if only a small amount, as well as attend our upcoming events.

We need presenters at colleges, universities, theatres , etc., who would like to us to perform. Please tell those you know about us.

About the Director: www.annabartos.com

*Maja! The Forgotten Woman...

I was inspired to write this musical drama out of my love for and devotion to Spanish music and culture during a 40-year career. A three-way fascination evolved: That of Goya for the 19th century picaresque lower middle class majos and majas spoken about in the lyrics by Fernando Periquet of Granados’ passionate and humorous songs; that of Granados, fascinated with every aspect of Goya’s life inspiring him to compose Coleccion de tonadillas sung in this drama along with an aria from his opera, Goyescas, and piano pieces in homage to Goya; and, lastly, my fascination with and admiration of them both.

MAJA! is a fusion of music, theatre, history, poetry, dance, painting and the colorful and multi-faceted character of the Spanish people, including the origin of majismo/machismo still in existence in Spain and Latin America. Love and hate/amor y odio, timeless and universal emotions in amatory relationships, is the main theme of the drama.  Enhanced by backdrop of a famous Goya painting and authentic Spanish and modern dances, Maja! is, literally, a work of art worthy of funding.
