Hi, I am Pierpaolo. I am the founder of soulShape, a social innovation initiative, aimed to safeguard the fragile indigenous cultures by creating a digital library of 3D models of traditional handcrafts.
Please, take a few minutes to get to know our work with indigenous people around the world and watch this short interview from TV show "Kilimangiaro" on RAI3 - Italian National TV.
The aim of this campaign is to create a new section within our digital library about traditional handcrafts of Hadza people, some of the world’s last hunter-gatherers. Taking from the experience gain during our field missions to Mongolia, West Papua, Bolivia, and Argentina, our team is planning to travel to Tanzania in order to collect 3D models and stories of Hadza cultural objects. We expect to start this project in April 2021.
(Pierpaolo attending UNPFII at the UN building in NYC)
We chose to support Hadza people after meeting Martha - a Masai lady from Tanzania - at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York, where we had the chance to meet with a number of other indigenous representatives from around the world. On that occasion, Martha invited us to come to Tanzania and made us aware of the precarious condition of Hadza culture. The Hadza people a very small indigenous group (total population: less than 1000 individuals). Their communities live in the north-west area of the country, between salty Lake Eyasi and the Rift Valley highlands. Due to a hard resistance against their way of life from other groups, the ancestral culture of Hazda people is rapidly disappearing.
Your support
Through your help, we will finance our expedition allowing us to preserve an important part of Hazdabe culture. Hunting tools, kitchen utensils, musical instruments, dances and songs constitute the living heritage of Hadza people. Through the collection of 3d models of traditional artefacts, we will make sure that Hadza creativity is passed onto future generations.
