Our Story
I am Mbela Endeley, born in Chicago but raised in Nigeria and Cameroon where I was raised in a sea of great world music and African music through my mother and fathers enthusiasm for music and dance. I went to college for Architecture, once in Nigeria and again in California when I returned to the states at the age of 19. My experiences and my love for music pushed me into a research path where I was trying to first of all find certain corollations in sounds and vision and tactile experiences in myself and then hopefully find ways to share the experience. This project can be considered a 'forced Synesthetic experience' of sorts.
I have released several works online and internationally on independent Digital music Labels such as 'Filter Label' from Macedonia. I am calling my new work 'the sound crafter project' because I believe that while making music is a beautiful art, the practice of forging sonic experiences that resonate like cubist paintings in sound. No suttle hints but strong suggestions on the simple yet complex connection between sound, touch, and vision.
All theoretical jargon aside, this project, which consists of a CD, Mp3s and A DVD of visual suggestions from the compositions. This a fun and funny project which feels lighter and at the same time darker than most work that I have done, but very expressive and very soulful in it's own way.

The Impact
The impact I believe I can make from this is showing that while we are all constantly being shoved in a box, we can all still find our inner expressionist. I believe that my work is just a testament to the everyday human emotional experience painted in motion graphics and Photoshop brushes, and layered with sound that though it is electronic in origins rings of so much soul.
